Heartwarming Willie Morris essays

Those who reminisce over pleasant and memorable life experience will enjoy this heartfelt collection of essays by an outstanding Southern writer (My Dog Skip). Recently wanted to reread it for the third time and discovered I must have loaned it out with no return. Most happy to have one back in my collection of excellent Southern writers.

Peaceful and Energizing

Willie Morris's Terrains of the Heart speaks to the soul in a way that provides peace and energy. His choice of words and writing style add a depth to understanding the essential core of human experience and expression in its deepest and most fulfilling sense. As I read, I felt a peacefulness for I identified with his experiences in the short story forms presented within the context of his essays. I also felt energized not only because of his ways of expressing his profound thoughts but also because of what was being written. A profound understanding of relationships, returns to the past parts of our lives, the importance and impact of history and more were stimulating and provoking in a way that provided a sense of intellectual and spiritual affirmation.

This is a book to be read and re-read, savored and enjoyed.

When "Terrains of the Heart" first appeared in 1981, the RICHMOND NEWS LEADER wrote, "The temptation will be strong to take 'Terrains of the Heart' in huge gulps. Resist it, for this is a book to savor, to reflect on, to return to over the years when home is nearby, or when the very idea of it seems far, far away." The author Willie Morris, who passed away Aug. 2, 1999, is still very much with us in these pages. "Terrains of the Heart" is a fitting chronological companion to Morris's acclaimed autobiography, "North Toward Home."
