Fairytales and Counting

A book that's wonderful for little girls. First page starts out with 10 fairies, each with a sparkling, glittering, and texturized dress. Each fairy has a different dress color (so this helps teach children about colors, too). I ask my 2yo daughter which fairy is gone once we turn a page, and she will identify it by color (so it helps with memory, too). Book uses fairytale stories as the theme for each page. For example, first page starts off like "Ten tiny fairies sparkle and shine, one swims with a swan--then there are..." (next page) "NINE tiny fairies cry "Princess don't be late!", one calls the carriage-- then there are..." and so on and so forth. Other fairytale stories include Jack and the Beanstalk, The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, The Princess and the Pea, Thumbelina, Alladin and Alice in Wonderland. Although, there is no obvious mention of the said fairytale titles, the illustrations and some mention of character names make it so to those who are familiar with the classics. I can't wait to use this book to introduce the different fairytale classics. Oh, and at the end of the book, the 10 fairies come back together (as illustrations with light effects) to watch a little girl to slumber. With the screwable compartment at the back of the book, batteries can be replaced.

This hardcover book is a treasure to my granddaughters. It is from the creator of "Ten Little Ladybugs". It is imaginative and beautifully illustrated. The cover sparks anticipation to look further into the book. The book of course, begins with "ten little fairies" and the story leads down to "one tiny fairy" but the lovely & delightful surprise at the end of the book is that all ten fairies return in a dream with their fairy wands actually twinkling. Little girls will love this book and it would be a wonderful birthday party gift!
