Very in depth and dynamic

This is a great book for a complete beginner. They provide you with reading exercises, various activities to practice Swedish, a dictionary, cultural notes, grammatical notes, and the list goes on. It explains a lot of the grey areas that many language apps don't explain. If you're seriously looking to learn Swedish this is the way to go. I will be ordering more books from this series.

LOVE IT

Yes, this is for people who have at least 2 languages under their belts! AND since I am fluent in English and German, Swedish is very easy for me to grasp!!! I FIND THIS SERIES IS FOR PEOPLE who are more advanced in language studies and really want to learn (or die trying)! FYI, I have also used this series for Italian and Portuguese all with great success!!! The trick is to learn the words!!!

If you are already bilingual or an advanced language learner

This book is excellent for people who already speak German or another similar second language. If you're new to learning languages, you might prefer something else. I really like this book and CD because it is fast paced and keeps me into it. It's challenging enough for me to have to think while doing the exercises, instead of mindlessly repeating things. I like the structure: the vocabulary words for each dialogue, and the clarified grammar points corresponding to each unit.

Excellent Book for your money

It was three years ago that I started with this small course. I figured I was going to spend 10 days in Sweden and may as well speak a few sentences. And I was hooked ! This book got me going quickly. The key is to repeat and repeat the CDs until you follow what the speaker is saying. Now I can easily say that I hear Swedish Radio P1, watch Swedish TV, and read newspaper via internet fluently. And I live in the US! Granted, I bought some extra courses. Suggested follow-up courses: Nya Mål and Svenska Untifrån from the Swedish Institutet. ( www.swedenbookshop.com. )

Great buy if you know your parts of speech

Hello. I think this book is a wonderful find for people who want to learn Swedish. The pronunciation guide isn't the best, but after listening to the recordings you get a general sense of how things are pronounced. The recordings are great because you can get used to a few different dialects and accents within the Swedish language. The one thing is, and this goes for all language-learners, you need to really study up on your parts of speech before you try to learn a foreign language. I say this because this book doesn't do the best job explaining parts of speech. In addition to this book I would reccomend "Essential Swedish Grammar" which is published by Dover. Have fun learning!!

The Teach Yourself series is officially recognized by the University of Virginia's Department of Germanic Languages. I used this course successfully to learn Swedish and am planning a trip to Sweden so that I can show off my language ability. This course can be difficult for beginners, but patience and perserverance pay off in the long run. The Teach Yourself Danish and German courses are also excellent.
