Pictures will always educate better than words, this book has aged very well

Most computer books age at light speed, but this one is an exception. Although it was published in 1998, the images still deliver an understandable message of how computers and the Internet work. As is the case with all "Visually" books, the sequence of diagrams takes you through a step-by-step set of lessons that anyone can understand. If you are a novice in computers and the Internet and have a phobia with learning about them, this is still one of the best books that you can select as a starting point.

"A Picture Is Worth A Thousand Words!"

For the inexperienced intimidated by big, thick manuals with lots of print! This book is a fantastic, visually-pleasing intoductory course into computers and the internet. If your learning method is by observation or "hands-on", this is the book for you! It is as if the illustrators are in a room with you answering your every novice question and at the same time "plucking out" that very piece of equipment from the inner-workings of your computer. The result is a perfect solution to a potentially complicated learning experience, simplified. The adult "picture book" reviews computer basics like ram, cpu, modems, and compressed files, to web newsgroups, multimedia, E-mail and web navigation - what they are, how they work and how they fit in the "big picture"- all done visually. Their slogan is "Read Less, Learn More" and that is exactly the author's presentation. I got more out of this book than the "Introduction to Computers" course I took at our local college!
