Very funny, very emotional. Excellent

Heather Montgomery is practical. She's a CPA, a size 14, and she's just not the kind of woman a sexy guy looks at twice. Still, she's in Las Vegas for her cousin's bachelorette event, and when she sees sexy Tony McCaffrey from back home (he doesn't recognize her, of course), she wants to help him. He needs another twenty thousand to buy the bar he's dreamed of managing, but his angel investor has just backed off and Tony has proven his gambling isn't the way to earn the money he needs. Heather found a ten dollar chip, and she's sure it's good luck--the key to Tony's twenty thousand. But by the time the evening is over, they're drunk, in bed together, and there's a marriage license on the bed next to them. Being married wouldn't be a problem--except Heather was so drunk, she called her mother--and now she's going to be attending her cousin's wedding as the married for eight hours woman. Tony may play the field, may have about as much interest in being faithful as he does in becoming a priest, but he doesn't want to let Heather down--for one thing, she did win him his twenty thousand dollars. Surely he can manage a fake marriage for a month--at least until the cousin's wedding is over. What neither anticipate is how being with one another will change their lives. Author Jane Graves alternates laugh-out-loud humor and gut-wrenching emotion in what may be her strongest novel yet. Heather is a wonderfully approachable heroine, with human strengths and failings, and a mostly reasonable view of herself--she really is a size 14, after all. Tony is a wonderful wounded bad-boy. TALL TALES AND WEDDING VEILS makes for a really compelling ring. I picked it up this afternoon and kept reading until I was finished. If you're looking for a romance that really comes together, that doesn't just rely on sex appeal and superficial disagreements, and that's sexy in a fun way, I suggest you give Graves and TALL TALES a try. I'm happy to recommend this one.

Jane Graves writes another keeper

Tall Tales and Wedding Veils by Jane Graves is a book that will stay in your heart forever. Heather Montgomery always does the right thing. As an accountant she likes order and planning in all aspects of her life. To please her family she agrees to be in a cousins wedding. This also involves a weekend bridesmaid's trip to Vegas. There she runs into sexy hometown hottie Tony McCaffrey. Tony McCaffrey is putting all his money into buying the local bar McMillan's. He came up $20,000.00 short so he tries his luck in Vegas. There bumps into Heather Montgomery a local girl he never noticed before. Tony decides Heather is his lucky charm and soon she is winning the money he needs. Next thing they realize they are hitched. Both agree to a quickie annulment but when her family finds out she is married they agree to stay married for a month to make them happy. But living together makes this unlikely couple look at each other with new eyes. Each learns something about themselves they didn't realize was there. Once the month is up will they go their separate ways or stay together? This book is an absolute keeper. It stayed with me long after I had finished reading. As Tony and Heather grow as individuals and as a couple you will find yourself routing for them to find their happy ever after.

Graves has done it again!

With TALL TALES AND WEDDING VEILS she once again whisks us off to Plano, TX. Tony McCaffrey, the woman-loving lothario from HOT WHEELS AND HIGH HEELS, finds the woman to end his wandering ways in Heather Montgomery, only he doesn't realize it yet. Not even after she helps him secure the money in Vegas for the bar he wants to buy or waking up after a night of celebrating to find himself married to her. Heather, a successful CPA, the ugly duckling, non-married member of her extended family, is forced to continue staying married to hunky, sexy Tony rather than disapoint her mother, who can now hold her head up in the family with Heather's marriage to such a fine looking man. My first Jane Graves book but not my last

Heather Montgomery is a CPA who's almost 30, a size 14, and considers herself very ordinary-looking - she's sorta the stereotype of a CPA. She'd like to someday find someone to marry but so far, no luck. She's stuck being a bridesmaid for her not-so-nice cousin who ordered Heather's bridesmaid dress one size too small and enjoys belittling Heather. Heather and her friend Alison like to go to McMillan's the local bar/restaurant, enjoy the food, drinks, and the "view" - especially Tony McCafferty. Tony is gorgeous, charming, and doesn't ever "see" Heather when she's at the bar - she's too plain - he's one of those guys that likes gorgeous empty-headed blondes. Through a series of circumstances, both end up in Vegas, meet up with each other, drink way too much champagne and end up married. Unfortunately, Heather's family finds out about the wedding. Tony suggests that they pretend to be married for a month - it'll take that long for the annulment and Heather can save face with her family and at her cousin's wedding. As the month progresses, they learn about each other. Tony seems shallow, loving and leaving women, just out for a good time. But he's basically a good guy and the more you learn about him, the more human and likeable he becomes. Heather is great - someone you can relate to - she knows she's smart but as her aunt keeps reminding her, she's not married (the true definition of success in Heather's family). And while Heather knows that she's a success, there's a voice inside her that wants someone like Tony to look at her and want her. If you're looking for a well written romance novel with some great characters, this is it. I'm off to find more of this author's books!

Humorous story with emotional depth as well

There is a wonderful balance of deep emotions and light humor. The plot starts off with Heather and Tony each taking a trip to Vegas and ending up getting married. Through a series of mix ups and misunderstandings, they start pretending to be happily married. Then the story progresses through their experiences as they attempt to convince everyone else that they truly are happily married as they wait for their annulment. There are emotional highs and lows, lots of funny parts and some spicy love scenes. I loved this book and would definitely recommend it.
