Swans

A lovely and informative book on the largest of the waterfowl. Ms. Scott is the daughter of Sir Peter Scott, a world-renowned naturalist, and in particular, an expert on swans, and it looks as if he has a worthy successor. This little volume is clear, concise, and includes a wealth of photographs and descriptions of all eight species of swan. Ms. Scott also touches on threats to the swan, human and otherwise, and on efforts to protect them. Very enjoyable.

Beautiful photos, & lots of great info on swans

This is a wonderful book for those interested in learning about swans. It is packed with many beautiful full-color photos. They show the swans flying, preening themselves, caring for their young, or just gliding along the water. First the 8 swan species are described in detail. This includes information on their physical traits, population and distribution. There are some great maps in the back that show their locations as well.Next, their feeding habits & migration are explained. The book then details the swan breeding conduct and the perils they face in everyday life. The final chapters discuss the exploitation of swans & conservation efforts. Above all, this book captures the legendary beauty of the swan in its many wonderful color photos. It is a truly fascinating book and would make a great gift for any wildlife enthusiast.
