The essential aftermarket add-on to the 401K

Now that we're moving to an economy where everybody's retirement plan will be some kind of 401k/403b/457/IRA, the ingenious and yet oh-so-simple alternative method to dollar cost averaging in this little book can put literally BILLIONS, nay, TRILLIONS of dollars into our national retirement coffers. I won't give the method away here, since we have to support the folks who offer us up the used copies, but the basic idea is a simple calculation each time a payroll deduction is made about what percentage to use for buying your mutual fund shares and what percentage goes into cash reserve. The method improves upon the quality of the dollar-cost averaging buying curve, buying more shares as the share prices dip below your cost basis and many fewer as they climb above it, dispensing with the need to sell shares in favor of beefing up the cash reserve instead. If plan managers programmed this method into their software for payroll deduction customers, the public would love its investments and everybody would be happy. There is one adjustment the modern 401k payroll-deduction investor needs to make to their accounts to accomodate this technique: you need to have your payroll deduction deposited into your cash or money-market fund first and then transfer the amounts in the proportions dictated by Synchrovest manually. If your plan doesn't have an easy-to-use online software platform to do the switching you may want to make manual adjustments at monthly or quarterly intervals, but hopefully you aren't faced with that. Synchrovest works almost perfectly for its intended purpose without some of the mathematical quirks of Lichello's full-blown AIM method or the payroll deduction complexities built into Michael Edleson's "Value Averaging". Synchrovest is truly an "automatic pilot" for the 401k...
