Like a 'Zagat' Guide for Grandparents

Sally Olds has given us a real gift here: Interesting things to do with different ages of children-some activities you may have done, some you never dreamed of, and some that will make you marvel at the creativity of some folks. What I liked especially are the breadth of things to do, the clear descriptions, and the $ signs. By the way, anyone, not just grannies, looking for ideas of things to do with kids will love this book. A bonus is the author's ability to relate 'great stuff to do' to particular stages in child development. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book, even if I do only a few new things with my two grandchildren. But when I invite now ten year old Gabrielle to join me in a political rally some day, I will know I have to thank Sally Olds for that.

Super book on Super Grandparents

When the grand children visit, call or share time with you, what grandparent is not challenged by how to spend time with them? Should you get down to their level and crawl with them on the floor or under the table? Or should you sit and read their books to them? Each "Granny" - and I mean grandmother or grandfather--faces this challenge. Super Granny is a handbook that provides guidance to grandparents for this all too short life stage, grandparenthood. My wife and I both read this, separately and together. It is an informative, chatty, delightfully presented book of suggestions for fun with grandkids. Olds provides a plethora of ideas based on grandmothers' activities that her friends and acquaintances have done with their grandchildren. As grandparents who have done many activities with our 5 grandchildren ages 7-19, we found new and exciting things to do and suggestions we plan to try. We shared the chapter on "Camp Grandma" with our friend who told us that she have a similar camp with her 9 grandkids and she found an activity she'd like to try this year. If you are like us, wanting to make each moment with your grandkids as valuable and meaningful as you can, we are sure that you'll find things in this book to try. And hurry and do it now, because before long they will be in college and that great window of grandparenthood will change and pass you by.

A Granny must have

As a grandmother of fourteen i very highly recommend this book to all Grannies. I want to send it to every new and old grandma I know. My only regret is that i didn't think of doing some of these activities when my older grandchildren were young, but, to be sure, I will put Ms. Olds book to good use starting today. It is well researhed and strong on safety issues. Super Granny is a must have!

This is a keeper!!!!!!

What a terrific book! Crammed full of ideas for things to do with your grandchildren, some of which I promise you you haven't thought of. It's light-hearted, but serious in its goal. To make your experiences with your grandchildren those they will remember all their lives, and pass on to their grandchildren! Great stuff. We can all be deeply grateful to the author for putting this gem together.

Great gift for grandparents! If nobody gives it to you, buy your own!

This book is loaded with lots of easy and inexpensive activities you can do with your grandkids. Some ideas are the author's, and others came from her interviews with other grandparents. I'm the grandmother of six and I am already planning six or seven activities I've found in SUPER GRANNY, from taking walks in the rain or at night (free), writing love letters (also free), to hosting a "dog wedding" (I kid you not!)to taking trips without breaking the bank. The grandmother who said riding up and down in an elevator was a "fun activity" has my undying affection. What a great idea, especially for a little kid just tall enough to reach the lowest buttons. The author (a Super Granny herself)writes in friendly, upbeat language. There also are nice illustrations. Even complicated activities such as writing books or helping kids learn to knit are explained clearly.
