Avatar: The Last Airbender – Suki, Alone unfolds when Azula provokes Suki before dispatching her and the other captives to The Boiling Rock. Suki, unyielding, refuses to react until Azula unveils her scheme to inform Sokka that Suki, her favored prisoner, has given up on him. Suki asserts her independence, declaring she doesn’t require anyone to rescue her. Azula plots to ensnare Team Avatar and taunt them about their defeat, revealing the harsh realities Suki will face in prison. Undeterred, Suki boards the Fire Nation war balloon and eventually rides the gondola to The Boiling Rock. Despite the guard’s repeated warnings, she remains resolute that she won’t be kept captive. Suki remembers her younger days with her Kyoshi Warriors sisters in training. Suki and her friends peek at the grown Kyoshi Warriors’ meditation sessions. Suki’s expression reveals her excitement about becoming a Kyoshi Warrior in the future. Plus, she mentions it every day to her friends. Suki’s best friend, Mingxia, steals some steamed buns and shares them with her Kyoshi Warrior sisters. Oyaji, the village leader of Kyoshi Island, confronts Suki and her friends about the missing steamed buns. Suki lies with crumbs on her face, and Oyaji is disappointed. All the girls scrub the kitchen floors as a punishment, but they have no issues with it because they are sisters forever. The narrative shifts back to Suki being led to her cell. Her witty comment about the guards’ hospitality adds a touch of humor. She engages in Kyoshi-style meditation until she accidentally punches a wall. Seated, she notices a dumpling weed sprouting from the crack. The dumpling weed, resembling pods of peas rich in nutrients, serves as a poignant reminder of her survival skills on Kyoshi Island. The sight of this resilient plant in The Boiling Rock brings her a sense of comfort and connection to her past. Later, when Suki eats the slop at the cafeteria, she encounters a woman who argues with one of the guards about what they are forced to eat. Suki introduces herself to the lady, Biyu. Suki provides her backstory, and Biyu admits her crime was stealing. The last thing she stole was the heart of a prominent general’s son. The mother had Biyu arrested for being a thief and supposedly in love with her son. Suki shares a small portion of the dumpling weeds and gets an idea. Suki and Biyu walk around the yard, collecting more dumpling weeds. Suki gives Biyu some and plants the rest so everyone can eat them and grow strong enough to escape. Biyu doesn’t see the importance of helping the other prisoners but agrees with Suki’s plan. Another flashback shows Suki and Mingxia speaking about how their training went and the town’s shortage of food. Mingxia believes they should open their borders to other nations. Suki disagrees and collects dumpling weeds to help the village get by. Mingxia voices her opinion to Oyaji, Suki, and the Kyoshi Warriors. However, everyone refuses to support Mingxia’s idea. Suki feels terrible, especially when Mingxia decides to leave Kyoshi Island. Suki’s goodbye to her is painful. Suki and Biyu enter the laundry room tunnel that a fellow prisoner named Han has been guarding. Beyond the tunnel lies a secret garden of dumpling weeds that Suki has been growing for the past two weeks. Their picking of the vegetables is cut short when Han warns them that the Warden is coming for an unannounced inspection. Suki and Biyu hide in the laundry cart while the Warden gives his speech about how they are only useful inside the prison, where they will surely die of old age. Suki is determined to prevent that from happening. After the Warden leaves, Suki and Biyu exit the cart and thank Han. Suki distributes the dumpling weeds she managed to obtain. They deliberate their plan to escape one day when they feel strong enough.
