The producer of CBS Morning News delivers a searing novel of our times in which one man fights against the ruthless corporate spirit overtaking American business. Katz uses his inside knowledge to realistically portray life at a major TV network.
I bought Sign Off from a second-hand bookshop, along with a dozen other paperbacks. The book was a suprise, offering a realistic picture of middle-management in a big media company. Is is possible to make a career and still behave like a human being? (Answer: no.) There were suspense-creating fictive elements, most of these a bit clumsily written, but mostly the writing was convincing and sincere. Not a masterful work, parts of it closer to non-fiction than fiction, but recommended nevertheless.
great media book

Katz's first, and perhaps best, book - it's a real shame this one is out of print. It bristles with humor and genuine anger, and makes for a great, compelling read.
