An excellent introduction

The entire series of Smithsonian books titled Science 101 is excellent. All are very colorful, containing up to 250 color photographs. They are written at an easy-to-understand layman level, yet give a good overview of the subject. This one is on biology and includes topics from anatomy, physiology, ecology, genetics, and eveolution. It is up-to-date and a useful guide for anyone wishing to brush up on their biology, or learn it for the first time. It is also an excellent reference book. The author is a well known science writer.

Easy to Read !

Homeschooling parent ! I bought this for my teenager who isn't really "into" science. She loves it. The two-page per subject format works really well. It feels like reading a really good National Geographic article. Covers all the necessary areas - I made up some questions for each chapter . Now she is talking about buying other science books in this series. She has no plans to become a scientist - if so - I might choose a different type of book - more like a traditional textbook. But for most readers, I think the book is a real find !
