Short and to the Point

Very informative. Sites, restaurants, beaches -- great descriptions that actually matched the locations. Highly recommend this book.

reliable and concise as usual

Sardinia travel guide is as good, clear and concise as all the DK travel guides. It is ideal for those tourists who do not have the time to learn a long history, or simply do not want to do so. Ratio of photos/texts is perfect, maps are clear not filled with useless details. Quality of paper again is ideal, so can take it out from and put it back to your bag 100 times a day without transforming it into a pellet.

It helped a significant amount

I went to school in Rome for a semester, and during a four day weekend I decided to go to Sardinia b/c I saw some pics of it on the 'net and it looked and sounded awesome. As I read this book I became very excited at all the cool things one could do and see.The book listed many of the best beaches, festivals, scenery, and archaeological sites of the island. It was very hard to decide what I should do first! The book was a huge help and gave me lots of great ideas. However, I did have some trouble finding some of the things mentioned in the book, despite what seemed like very detailed directions. That may have had more to do with the very old and poorly maintained roads and signs than the book though. I have found some pictures online of places that I don't think were mentioned in the book that I want to see the next time I go, so I wouldn't rely exclusively on one source when planning your trip.

Just an FYI

Regarding the other two reviews, unfortunately the internet has not yet fully arrived in Sardegna, so the book has not left them out so much as there are none.

Small gem from Glossy and Friendly house of publishing

If this is your first Eyewitness guide, you will be surprised just how good a travel guide can be. Lots of high quality pictures, and descriptions are detailed and accurate. Those who prefer Rough Guide and Lonely Planet find Eyewitness "too glossy, too nice". True: it is hardly a choice of anti-Capitalist demonstrator, but if you prefer colorful to gray and clean to dirty, you will like it. I agree with the previous reviewer that it could be more up to date and include a few website addresses. I could add that the practical side (hotel and restaurant listings) could have more entries, but of course this takes a lot of research which costs a lot of money. Nevertheless, excellent area and town maps are the best in the business and they alone could justify buying the book. Apart from the things said above, there is little that can be improved.
