Cops, Ghosts, Mysteries and Love--You'll Love it, too!

"Body and Soul"-- Vic, the psychic who sees dead people, gets his third (non-psychic, as per policy) partner in this third story in the Psycop series, Zig, who looks like a stereotypical old-school cop--stocky, tall, short graying hair, mustache. The signs don't bode well for decidedly unconventional Vic, who aside from having to take powerful drugs to dull his abilities and make life seeing ghosts bearable, is gay, in a relationship with Jacob who is another psycop from a nearby precinct, grew up in foster homes, was traumatized and experimented upon in the name of training his abilities and is generally fumbling and unsure of himself when it comes to personal relationships and self-esteem. They are assigned to investigate three mysteriously missing people--one of whom is a Chicago alderman's nephew. And on top of that, Jacob wants Vic to check out if places are ghost free so they can move in together, a step that could make a more stable guy than Vic twitch a little. "Secrets"-- Vic and Jacob have found a place to live, but Jacob is distracted by a strange case of rape at an elderly care facility and Vic is useless at unpacking and settling in on his own. Then Vic discovers that he is un-Googleable, along with anything about the old Heliotrope Station--as well as the people Vic knew from his time there, in Camp Hell. And Lisa, briefly Vic's partner before she was discovered to be psychic, and Jacob's ex-boyfriend, Crash, also make appearances, complicating matters. Both stories, told in first person by Vic, are fantastic fun. Mystery and suspense with not a little horror, with a cast of vivid characters--particularly Vic, who has one of the most interesting personalities you'll ever come across in fiction, sympathetic and a bit pathetic, also capable, even extraordinary, and never trite, predictable or boring. And there's also hot sex as well as an interesting relationship between Vic and Jacob. I just LOVE this series! It is absolutely compelling and enjoyable and one of those reads that can be a thrilling find for a dedicated Reader of Books.

Psycop: Property

I read Psycop: Partners, Psycop: Property, and Camp Hell, a trilogy in that order, and can't remember when I've enjoyed reading anything so much! I have grieved that thusfar there is not another Detective Victor Bayne and Detective Jacob Marks story to follow. Is there? Victor Bayne is a delightful, lovable psychic detective: frail, flaky, totally disorganized, sloppy dresser. He talks very little and getting inside his head is pretty much impossible. He is also shy and completely clueless about how "hot" he is. He sees ghosts as easily as other people see the physical, material world around them, is in fact so hugely psychic that - to protect himself - he has felt the need to hide a great deal of his talent even from his superiors and coworkers (as well as his lover) so they won't know his ability is literally "off the charts." One of the negative side affects of this talent is that he is bombarded with spooks at every turn and must stay doped up with "antipsychs" to keep them at bay. Of course he likes his drugs a little too much. Who wouldn't? And considering the "hell" he went through at "Camp Hell," a so called training center, he is entitled. His lover Detective Jacob Marks is a big burly gorgeous hunk, well organized, spiffy dresser, good cook, lots of class and charm, who is a total hardass on the job (when necessary), but is incredibly kind, patient, and extremely protective toward Victor, who yanks his crank like no other and whom he obviously adores. At times it's hard to imagine how he puts up with some of Victor's thoughtless, hairbrained stunts, but he loves him. The sex between them is exquisite, and though it is not on every page, it is always worth waiting for. If you like M/M Romance/Erotica you will love these books.

PsyCop and intriquing, well written read.

It is always a surprise to read a gay focused book that shows the talent and ability of this superb writer. It is an intelligent, well written book that is easy to get lost in. Great fun!

Amazing Story! Highly recommended!!

Another homerun for Jordan Castillo Price with "Property", a combination of "Body and Soul" and "Secrets." "Body and Soul" is the third novel in the PsyCop series and Price proves to have a real flare for writing strong flesh and blood characters. It is also wonderful to see a male-male relationship that is masculine and about two seemingly regular men without any stereotypical `gayness.' Most enjoyably, Victor and Jacob are not without their humor as they work on their relationship. They have decided to find a house that they can move into together--but the house must be free of cockroaches and dead people. Oh, there is also a good mystery, the solving of which may help Victor in more ways than he imagines. The action of the story keeps you captivated and wanting to get to the next page. I found myself really caring for these characters and their lives. The writing is smart; the dialogue is witty; and the sex is hot. I highly recommend this novel! Secrets, secrets, everywhere.... "Secrets" is the fourth novel in the on-going series of PsyCop novels by Jordan Castillo Price. This may be the best of the series. The mystery is exceptional and the relationship is first rate. Once again, Jordan Castillo Price has created complex, vivid characters, full of humor and life that fully engage the reader and compel them to continue reading. Central to the novel is secrets-- apparently, everyone has some. The question is do these secrets have the ability to help or destroy and why are they secrets to begin with? The mystery in this story is an excellent puzzle with clues subtly dropped here and there throughout the story. The stakes are high for both the relationship between anti-hero Victor Bayne and his boyfriend Jacob Marks and solving the mystery of the horrible sex crimes being committed at the retirement home. Relentlessly, the story moves towards its conclusion with heart-thumping suspense and genuinely emotional moments. This is a well-developed and well-balanced story of a suspenseful paranormal mystery and a gay relationship without affectations or stereotypes. Despite an epilogue that sets up for a sequel--not a favorite thing of mine, I finished this novel feeling rewarded and satisfied. So what are you waiting for? BUY THIS BOOK! You will enjoy it!

Extraordinarily fantastic

JCP has used amazing skill in worldbuilding the psycop series. Jacob and Vic are multi-layered characters, who are learning more about each other in every book. Vic is fascinating and endearing with all his idiosyncracies, and Jacob is just hot! The secondary characters including Crash deserve their own series. The storylines are a perfect blend of paranormal/mystery/ and hot man sex. In the world of the psycop, psychic talents are used in police work, Vic is a level 5 medium, and Jacob is a null (no obvious psychic ability). Even though both men are cops, they operate from different strengths, this carries over to their personal relationships. As you can imagine, this provides challenges in many areas. JCP is brilliant in fleshing out these men's reactions and their love for each other, their desire to be together as all else arounds them spins out of control. If you enjoy good paranormal type mysteries/ police investigations and hot man romance this series is like no other. I would totally recommend it for the sheer originality of it, the snarky dark humour and hot sex! I cannot wait for Camp Hell, to find out more about Vic's past.
