The writing, plot, wit, and word play is spot on. This is timeless stuff. And can I add terrific? This is laugh out loud funny. I adored every moment!

A Wodehouse classic!

As far as I'm concerned, PG Wodehouse this is the best comic authors ever. It's understandable that Stephen Fry, Douglass Adams, and Hugh Laurie all praise him. In each of his books he brings a smile, a laugh, or even a giggle out loud. This was British comedy before Python, (and while different, the use of wit, satire, etc, makes Wodehouse a master). I used to read this book in university, pretending to listen to some lecture. These great literary treasures need to be discovered again by a new generation. Pass this book to someone who has never heard of Jeeves, Wooster, Psmith, Ukridge, Blandings, or Sally. Make any day better with a enthusiastic portion of Wodehouse's light-hearted legendary fun. Enjoy! In this Wodehouse classic, you'll enjoy much confusion involving imposters, crooks, detectives, butlers, aunts - all and all good fun! Basically it's a simple and easy choice for you, if you like one Wodehouse story you're going to like them all. The cry goes about town: Wodehouse is Back!

Simply put, if you like one Wodehouse story you're going to like them all. Much of this can be explained by Wodehouse's mastery of the language and constant deft turns of phrase, period slang, and comic timing. Many humorous plotlines are in this hilarious book - Jimmy Crocker, a playboy of sorts on both sides of the Atlantic - becomes ashamed when his antics may have cost his American father an English Lordship. He decides to take on a different name, because of a girl, and then is forced to pretend to be that person pretending to be himself for the sake of that same girl. His father decides to come to America to be a butler so that he can follow baseball again. But that's not all: we have kidnapping plots, other people pretending to be someone they aren't, an invention worth stealing, and more; all contained in this one fantastic story. If you need a smile in your world today - you need Piccadilly Jim.

Love at first read!

Picadilly Jim is the first Wodehouse book I have read and thoroughly enjoyed it.This is not a book that you finish reading in 3 days.You want to take your time and relish the language and the play of words. The story has many layers and each layer is as delightful (if not more) as the previous one. Cant wait to read another Wodehouse!

A very witty and entertaining book!

I very highly recommend this book. It has a great storyline and is very funny and entertaining. I'd give it more stars if I could. If you like the novel I also recommend the 1936 movie version staring Robert Montgomery.
