A Good Bargain Price Book.

This is really two books in one. The first part of the book is concerned with the digital world (computers, cameras, MP3 players, cell phones, digital TV, home theaters, etc.) The second part of the book is concerned with image manipulation of digital images. Both topics are covered in a general, survey manner and not in great detail. The book will therefore satisfy your needs if you only want an overview, rather than a detailed discussion of any of the many topics that are covered. For instance, the digital world section discusses the history of the technology followed by a general overview. If you are familiar with a technology area you will likely find the information a little too basic. Nonetheless, I found some interesting information in each section. For instance, do you know why a cell phone is called a cell phone or what MPEG stands for? The basics of digital photography (how the camera works and some of the basic controls) are discussed, but not general topics such as composition or lighting (for these the reader is directed at a general photography book as these topics are the same for film and digital photography). The image manipulation section focuses on Photoshop, although it is general enough to be applicable to other programs. The many facets of Photoshop are discussed, but not in the detail presented in a complete Photoshop usage manual. However, I did learn that the program is very powerful, too powerful for my needs and that I would be better served with Photoshop Elements or another more basic program. Given the cost of Photoshop, this was a valuable piece of information. All in all, I liked the book especially since I bought it at a remainder price of $4 US.
