Short review but a good book

As both an author and reader of fiction, I was impressed with "Phoebe by Diane Noble". Maybe it is because I have always enjoyed a book that could hold my attention and make me think at the same time. In a nutshell, the characters are believable and yet a little out of the ordinary and the story line unique. Give this book a try. The Christian fiction book that I have written main story line is about ten years in the life of a little girl who was "chosen by God" to be the next Madonna in the second coming of Christ. A great quick read

Phoebe is a fast paced quick read. I enjoyed the short chapters and how the author went from one period of time to the next. Flowed well--good read. I am now interested in more of Diane Noble's books.

Phoebe

TITLE: PhoebeAUTHOR: Diane NoblePAGES: 156PRICE (hardback): $12.99PUBLICATION DATE: 2003ISBN: 1-57856-401-8CATEGORY: Fiction Phoebe is the wooden doll that captured the hearts of Sarah, Faith, Ivy, Summer, and Stephen. Now lets follow Phoebe's journey through time as her story unfolds in five different American eras. Sarah's father carved Phoebe for her in 1857, when she was six years old. On the back of Phoebe, the words "I will Love you 4 ever" were carved. Phoebe traveled with Sarah and her family by wagon from Northeast Arkansas to Temecula California in 1862 where Phoebe was lost forever. In 1935, Faith discovered a wooden soldier in a secondhand store, its face rubbed smooth and showed lots of love from a child's caresses. At first glance, the doll captured her heart and she needed to find out the history of this doll. In 1914, Ivy a lonely widow, who lost her husband and son. Opened the door to her home one day and found a bundle lying on the porch. In the bundle was a wooden toy soldier. Ivy spotted a little boy standing beside a bush and asked him if he put it there he said, "no". Ivy was convinced the little boy wasn't telling the truth so she got him to help her clean the doll up and make new cloths for it. Through this process, Ivy found out the little boy was troubled and needed special schooling; and she knew she could help him. She decided to give the doll back to the little boy, and hoped that it would bring back the love to him that it once did. In 1904, Summer a bitter bride who forced her husband to leave and then regretted it once she found out she was with child. Lucy, a neighbor, became a friend to her and saw how lonely she was and gave her the doll as a gift for her unborn child. It was to help Summer get through the lonely and sad times. When Summer's baby was born, it was a boy. When he turned four, he found the box with the doll inside it at which time it was given to him. In 1862 Phoebe was found by Stephen, a fifteen year old running away to war; the doll had been left on the stagecoach in which he was riding. Stephen took the doll with him in hopes that when he returned, he would find the little girl that owned her. But before he could get the doll back, it went into battle with him and saved his friends life. Not knowing if he would make it home, he sent the wooden doll home to his little sister Lucy, who cherished it because it was a gift from her brother. In Phoebe, Noble has filled with warmth and loving-kindness the story of Phoebe's journey from beginning to end. You can feel the love and care of each character in the story as it is told. Phoebe is so intriguing that once I started reading the book; I could not put it down until I found out what happened to her. It is like a jigsaw puzzle, all the pieces of Phoebe fall perfectly into place throughout time.Reviewer: Patricia WylieDate: May 3, 2004
