A GREAT READ BY A GREAT AMERICAN

This book, an easy but absorbing read, is a very revealing and poignant tale of the life of a very decent man and a dedicated public servant. DeLay, a man I greatly admire, does not shy away from his personal failings; he deals with his vulnerability in a characteristcally courageous way. It is a revealing book, not only in the sense that it carries you through DeLay's ascent to power and what goes on behind the scenes in Congress, but, of equal value, it demonstrates quite clearly what those of us on the right have always known - since the left can't compete on a level playiing field of ideas, they will go to any length to bring you down. I wholeheartedly recommend this book; it is the tale of a good man and an interesting slice of history. Ken Eliasberg

A Fantastic Read

Going by the reviews posted here so far, it only looks like half of the "reviewers" actually read the book while the other half only attacks Tom Delay entirely on media conceptions. In "No Retreat, No Surrender", former Congressman Tom Delay discusses his passion for the conservative cause that he has given years of his life to, his religion and the abuse of House rules by Democrats that led to his downfall. Delay pulls no punches as he constructively critizies Democrats such as Bill Clinton and Republicans such as President George Bush (who he feels has expanded government spending too much), Newt Gingrich and others. Delay also goes into detail on the Texas Redistricting, noting that the Democrats actually unfairly redistricted in the early 1990s to group large Republican areas into a few Districts so that the Democrats could maintain control of the legislature. As such, the 2003 Redistricting was only restoring the lines and giving voice back to the majority of Texas Republicans. Delay confronts the top 10 lies and misconceptions of himself in one chapter, completely tearing apart the myths that he "Hammered" the Republicans to vote a certain way or that he stepped down because he was guility The book is filled with several touching moments, such as Delay's recollection of a assassination attempt on his life and how a brave officer is fatally wounded in his defense. Following this, Delay continually checked on the man's condition only to find he died en route to the hospital and as a result, the Congressman breaks down into tears on his return flight to Texas. Another moment is Delay's faith where Delay talks about how in his happiest and darkest times, he prayed to God to give him strength Overall, this is a great read not just for Conservatives, but for Moderates and Liberals whose only image of Tom Delay is that of a right wing corruption extremist. Read this book and get a REAL image of the man

A Brilliant Book by a Great American

The toxic liberal left threw everything but the kitchen sink at Tom DeLay and yet he's still standing and throwing punches. In this book DeLay exposes the Democrat party for who they are. The Democrat Party is the party of surrender and retreat, just look at their cut and run policy in Iraq. Republicans like DeLay do not surrender and do not cut and run. DeLay was one of the greatest House leaders in American history and he's a brilliant author. 5 stars for an amazing book. One of the best books ever written in the English language.

WOW -- Pulls no Punches

I am so excited that someone is finally speaking to us conservatives and demanding action. To hear the trials and tribulations that a politician goes through just for standing up for what is right is such a blessing. We conservatives need to applaud Mr. DeLay for what he has done and I for one am delighted to hear that he is not shying away from the fight for our future. THANK YOU THANK YOU!

If you're a conservative, you will LOVE this book!!

This book is so inspiring for all conservatives. It gives the inside baseball on everything that has happened during the Republican Majority the last 12 years. Mr. DeLay is a leader in the conservative movement and his memoirs really shows why he is such a prominent force in modern politics.
