Extremely well-written, thorough and vibrant account.

The author presents a well balanced account of the Spanish and Native American struggles. Although the Spanish were often impressed by the cultural accomplishments of Native Americans, their lust for riches dictated that the Indians be conquered and subjugated. This book vibrantly chronicles a violent era, during which entire civilizations were eradicated through economic and religious means. And yet, 500 years later, many of these cultures endure. Get ready for a riveting ride back in history. You may not like everything you read, but the author is fair in this presentation
