The Gospel of Mother Teresa: The Closest Readers Are Likely To Come To An Autobiography

The inside flap reads, "My Life For The Poor," is the closest readers are likely to come to an autobiography of Mother Teresa." This describes this book in a nut shell. I have nine books before me, all purporting to be authored by Mother Teresa, as I write this review. Including, "In My Own Words," and "Essential Writings." In my opinion, "My Life For The Poor," is the best of the lot. Mother Teresa was not an intellectual, she was a person of action, and so consequently we have no books really written by her. One thinks of Jesus who never wrote a book but had disciples who took notes, and wrote the gospels. This then, is the gospel of Mother Teresa, transcribed by her disciples from countless talks given over the years. If you want the feel of reading a well organized autobiography, if want to come away feeling like you know Mother Teresa a little bit better, then this is the book you want. Skip the others. It is unfortunate that this book seems to be under valued, as it would be nice to have an updated version that takes you from 1985, when the hardcover version came out to 1997 when she died.

A light and easy read.

This small paperback offers autobiographical information from Mother Teresa. It is sketchy in many spots, but for a book its size, offers good first person dialogue from Mother, and gives an excellent sense of her divine calling.
