Two Words for this book...Sizzling Hot!

This book is hot! hot! hot! This book just plain sizzles and is fun to read. First of all the cover is great ( I'm a total sucker for good covers), and then book is non-stop action from beginning to end with a lot of romance thrown into the mix. Who knew inter-species romances could be so good? The characters are great in this book and the romance sizzles without being gratuitous. The story keeps moving and with every page there is another twist and turn that will make it difficult for the reader to put the book down. Whether you're a paranormal romance fan or not, this is just a fun book and one that you won't be able to put down once you start it.

Oh Yeah!

When not writing, Author Carolyn Jewel is a Database Administrator. My Wicked Enemy is her other title besides this one, which is set for release in June 2009. She resides in northern California with her son, three cats, a border collie, several chickens, and some sheep. When Alexandrine Marit's brother Harsh returns from the dead with a warning about an amulet she found, Alexandrine can't help but wonder where he was all that time she thought him dead, and what could be so dangerous about a simple talisman? She's known all along that she was a witch, but she barely had any powers, and couldn't control the ones she did have. An evil mage craves the powerful stone that supplies her magic, and the only one who can keep her safe is her brother's friend, a dark and dangerous fiend she thought was only a myth. Xia hates witches because they enslave a mercilessly kill his kind. He's been ordered to protect Alexandrine from her birth father and his henchmen, and isn't happy about it one iota. As days turn to nights, this seemingly not so ideal body guard and the witch find the fierce animosity between them dissolving and a flaming passion replacing it. It's the passion that can unite them, and they must trust it and each other before the enemy can destroy them both. This isn't so much a dig on the book as it is a comment about the paranormal romance genre, but why do the majority of these books have desire, temptation, or forbidden in the title? Just a thought. I found the book to be very captivating and intriguing. It had the perfect blend of dark paranormal with steamy romance that wasn't over-the-top. The setting and world created was a phenomenal backdrop for the plot. The story flowed smoothly and I didn't find any areas where I lost interest. The characters were relatable and the secondary ones moved the story along nicely. More than anything, the book was kind of a big, frustrating tease- in a good way. Just when you think you are getting somewhere, or figuring something out, or discovering yourself all hot and bothered, something comes along to throw a wrench in the mix. This made the book difficult to put down. My Forbidden Desire, by Carolyn Jewel, is a taunting, tormenting, and sizzling tale- A must read for paranormal romance lovers. This great 'Forbidden' romance is steamy and intense

Xia hates witches. Witches are the enemy, witches have the power to steal a demon's will and sever him away from the `connection' that is so important to his kind - a fate worse than death - a fate the that Xia is determined never to suffer again. And now Xia is tasked with protecting a witch and not just any witch, Alexandrine is the daughter of the mage who enslaved him. Alexandrine isn't much of a witch, in fact discarded by her father for her lack of magical potential, Alexandrine can barely access her powers. Even though Xia tells her that daddy dearest is going to kill her to retrieve the powerful magical object in her possession, Alexandrine is sure that she doesn't need the gorgeous intense demon's protection - she can survive just fine on her own thank you. But as much as he wants to wipe witches from the face of the earth, Alexandrine also inspires in Xia a lust so potent that sleeping with the enemy may just be an even more satisfying way to deal with this particular witch. The relationship between Xia is steamy and intense. Jewell uses the depth of Xia' initial hatred of Alexandrine and retains the intensity even as his feelings for the witch shift to lust. Then Jewell notches it up even further, developing a mental connection between the pair, when trying to free Alexandrine from the unhealthy `my precious' link to the talisman as their magic is mixed up. I really liked that even as the balance of magical power shifts even more solidly to Xia, Alexandrine is not relegated to damsel in distress, and it is Alexandrine's smarts that ultimately save them both. I loved Xia, he is lusciously dark and dangerous, and though some readers may be put off by Xia's forbidden shift to his demon form while being intimate with Alexandrine, his vulnerability to her complete acceptance of him without distinguishing between man and demon was appealing. And I really liked that the pair are forthright in their feelings so that the misunderstanding that are often a vehicle for tension in romances aren't allowed to take hold and keep the pair apart needlessly. Both Xia and Alexandrine deal with revelations head on even when they are unpleasant. Capitalizing on the excellent world building of Jewell's previous book My Wicked Enemy, My Forbidden Desire focuses much more on the interactions between the starring pair, making it a much more successful romance. I really enjoyed My Forbidden Desire and hope that Jewell write a whole slew more of these, there are more than a few gorgeous demon guys waiting in the wings for their turn in the spotlight and I want their stories.

My Forbidden Desire by Carolyn Jewel

Carolyn Jewel has created a very different world filled with mages, witches, demons, and the like. "My Forbidden Desire" is her second set in this world and I loved it. There's a battle going on...and it's been going on for thousands of years but we 'vanilla' humans just don't know about it. Unless we pick up this book of course. Alexandrine is a witch--but one with almost no power to 'pull' magic. She's also had a very difficult life and things don't seem to be getting any better when the brother she thought was dead reappears...with a smoking hot, but very hostile, buddy with him. If that's not enough of a shock, he's not here for a warm reunion. He's here to tell her that she's in mortal danger and his buddy is her new bodyguard! Oh, and her bodyguard HATES witches...like, wants to kill every one he sees. Isn't that just lovely? Xia (why not a name we can pronounce?) is a recently 'freed' demon...and he really, really hates witches and mages both. It was, after all, a witch who betrayed him to the mage who then held Xia like a robotic killer pet for centuries...while Xia could think and understand, he could only carry out the depraved and vicious wishes of the mage who held him. Nasty stuff that. But it was Alexandrine's brother who helped free him, so he owes him a debt. Payback's a real #$%@! Finding something new and different in the paranormal world is, for me, a joyous occasion. Jewel caught my interest with "My Wicked Enemy" and now "My Forbidden Desire" has cemented my fascination with her world. Neither the demons nor the mages are 'good guys'...but in this world, it's the demons who have the reader's sympathy as they fight to live their own lives and free their 'brothers' still held by mages. Unusual, eh? Jewel did a great job with the relationship between two 'people' who start out despising each other, mostly due to bias, ignorance, and their pasts. Sounds very human to me :) But gradually, as they learn more about each other, they begin to see each other as not 'witch' and 'demon'--but as Xia and Alexandrine. The attraction and tension is smoking hot throughout and again, there's a 'mental' threesome...but NOT physical...and it's not gratuitous sex thrown in as it truly is necessary for the plot. Cool. I'll be tapping my toes waiting for the next installment about this world. I'll also be thankful it's not real. Is it?

If you are intrigued by the paranormal, or looking for some sizzling romance, I highly recommend rea

Alexandrine Marit was adopted as a young child, so she had noone to ask questions about her premonitions, which were always true. As an adult, she found a group of people who had similar magical powers, and they researched to find out more about their world and other magekind like them. What they found led Alexandrine on a journey to find her birth father, where she is given an amulet by a woman who claims that it was her father's. Alexandrine finds that she doesn't want to take the amulet off, that she feels weaker if she even trys, and her magic seems to be stronger with it on. News of her possession of this powerful artifact starts to draw many unsavory creatures to her who absolutely will try to kill her to gain the powerful talisman. The one who is trying to protect her may be the one that she has to watch out for. Xia is tall, dark, incredibly dangerous, and totally her type, aside from the fact that he is a powerful demon that hates witches. My Forbidden Desire is an exciting book about a witch in a world like the one we live in. She is strong and very likable, and it is interesting to observe how she reacts when she finds out that all of the stories she has read about witches, mages, and demons are true. Xia, the dangerous bad boy on his motorcycle is thrilling, and the desire that draws the two of them together sends sparks flying. If you are intrigued by the paranormal, or looking for some sizzling romance, I highly recommend reading this book!
