A Total Cliff Hanger

Loved this book just like the first one but it ended as a cliff hanger. I would have much preferred a little tighter ending but I can't wait for the next one!

Fantastic Book!

This second book by Sara Mills is fantastic! The story line, the characters, and the plot are creative and interesting! I read the book in a day...just couldn't put it down! You won't be disappointed if you like WWII history and a good plot. This more of a suspense story not a mystery story line.

A Fabulous Second Installment to the Allie Fortune Series!

Allie Fortune knows that trouble has found her again when Jack O'Connor calls and wants to meet her so badly he's willing to go to her parents' for dinner to see her. It's been a while since they've worked together, but the moment she sees his face, she knows he didn't contact her for a friendly get-together. And indeed it seems his past has come calling. He's gotten a letter from his long-lost love, and answering it will mean giving up everything he's worked for to travel to Berlin, one of the most dangerous places in the world, to save her. What's Allie to do but go along for the ride and make sure he doesn't do something really stupid? Maggie O'Shane spent a lot of years searching for purpose in her life. The quest took her to the world over as a nurse during the war, but no matter where she went, memories of home--and Jack, the man she left behind--taunt her. In Berlin, she finally found a piece of her heart again in the form of a silent orphan girl named Greta. But when the girl stumbles across a few Soviet secrets, they could pay for it with their lives. The Lord tells her to contact Jack . . . but why in the world would he risk his life to save hers? Miss Match heads straight into the heart of intrigue and danger, delving back into Maggie's memories along the way. Though an unlikely group in a hostile city, these three brave the worst of the present and the past to get Maggie and Greta out of Berlin with their information. And if Allie has any say over it, Maggie and Jack will resolve a few personal issues too. But what of her own past and the man she hasn't seen in eight years? Miss Match is a good book with an absolutely fabulous ending. The pages sped by all through it, but in the last chunk of chapters, I bit my nails, raced across the paragraphs, and literally let out a squeak of protest when I flipped the last page. "No!" I cried out. "I need more! More, I tell you!" Sara Mills delivered a perfect cliffhanger ending that guarantees her readers will eagerly await the next installment of the Allie Fortune Mystery series--which is certain to satisfy us concerning Allie and her long-lost David. The story is fast-paced and involving, the characters deep and personal, and the result is a novel that isn't to be missed. Full of adventure, family secrets, and a few twists that will leave you breathless, Miss Match is a stellar sequel to Mills' debut Miss Fortune. The book stands on its own when it comes to story, but if you want the full scope of the characters' depth, definitely pick up Miss Fortune first--the history you get from the first will make the second all the more suspenseful. And you'll be tapping your foot along with me, waiting for the third!

Great Second Book

I read the first book in this series, Miss Fortune, last year and loved it. I could not wait for book two in the series to come out, Miss Match. It was definitely worth the wait. It is even better than book one. I read it this morning and could hardly put it down. One of the cool things about this series is the setting. It is set in the late 1940's after the war. One of the main characters is Allie short for Alexandra Fortune who is a private investigator in New York City. She meets Jack who is in the FBI in the first book. They are both pining for lost loves. Allie has spent 8 years trying to find David her fiance who never came home from the war but she does not believe to be dead. Jack has missed Maggie his childhood sweetheart ever since she told him she could not marry him and joined the war effort as nurse. Allie and Jack become good friends in the first but nothing else. In this book Jack gets a letter out of the blue from Maggie saying she is in Berlin and in great danger and needs his help. Allie being the good friend she is won't let him go alone or without a plan so she goes with him. The plot and characters are well developed and interesting. There is a sense of danger throughout the book and I felt like I was in the bleak Berlin after the war. The author loves film noir which comes through in the series without being too dark. The ending is abrupt and a major cliffhanger. I can't wait for book three to come out. This is going on my 2009 favorites list. I highly recommend the first book and this one. :)

what an exciting sequel

"Miss Match" is the 2nd book in the Allie Fortune mystery series by Sara Mills. First of all, I find it hard to believe that this is Sara Mills' 2nd book she has written. It seems like she has been writing for years. I adore this series and the adventures it takes us within the pages. Allie Fortune, the best and only female private investigator in NYC in 1947, is once again thrown into a case. This time in Berlin. Her friend and collegue Jack O'Connor, the FBI agent recieves a note from Maggie, his long-lost friend. Maggie seems to be in some sort of trouble in Berlin and pleads for Jack to come to her rescue. Wanting to help out her friend, Allie comes up with a plan that she and Jack pose as a married couple who are part of a missionary adoption group organized by a local church. They arrive in Berlin to discover the Maggie and her adopted daughter Greta are considered the most wanted in all of Germany. Apparently Greta had found a document that held the names of 3 American spies in the Russian military. And while trying to hand the document to authorities, 2 soldiers were killed. Now not only does the entire city of Berlin think she murdered those 2 soldiers, every military prescence in the city is after the document that Greta had found. It's up to Allie and Jack to think of a way to get Maggie and Greta out of Berlin--alive. I really enjoyed the look into Maggie and Jack's past in the book. This occurred in the first book with Allie and David's past so it was nice to see deeper into Maggie and Jack's character. Again, the book plays out like an old black and white movie. The time-period just seems so real from the words Sara Mills' has written. And the entire scenario of the book was quite adventruous. I recieved the book in the mail yesterday afternoon, and had all 300-some pages of it finished by tonight. It was just impossible to put down. The book does end rather abruptly though. And it has me looking forward to the 3rd book whenever it comes out...hopefully it is soon! :)
