A Special Children's Story

"Merry Christmas, Harry" is a rare treasure that must somehow have been lost amidst the piles of other Christmas books. This book was a childhood favorite for me. Every Christmas season my brother and I would pester our parents until they agreed to read it to us. What caught my attention as a child was the sweet simplicity of the tale. It is the story of a young cat, Harry, who decides that he doesn't want a football or a toy truck or any other material item for Christmas. All he really wants is a baby kitten. Children quickly relate to Harry as he waits excitedly to see if his Christmas wish will come true. The book has simple language and a gentle, sing-song rhythm, which children will quickly pick up on. Soon they will be able to recite the entire story from memory! But don't worry, kids won't grow bored of it once they know it by heart. This is a book they will probably read fondly to their own children some day. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to surprise a child with a special gift he or she won't soon forget.
