I Actually Threw it Away

I've never in my life thrown away a book. But, I could not bear more than a few pages before I set it down. I tried again, but the author is condescending -- using stereotypical tropes about "midgets" as she calls them when relating a tale of traveling for a scarf. She is a collector of artifacts from cultures to which she does not belong while mocking the people from who she takes these pieces. She's an apologist for substance abuse and misogyny all while seeking to take significant artifacts from indigenous cultures for her private collection. She then uses her tales of acquiring a basket to co-opt and profit from the spiritual journies and hardships of indigenous people which she is not. I should have done a little research before I purchased it. A quick internet search would have saved me from buying the book. But it is in the trash now. At least that copy won't find another reader.

I Love This Book

I love this book and have recommended it to many people over the years. It's an adventure, a spiritual tome, a wonderful intro to Native American wisdom and lore, and just a hell of a fun read! It is most important to begin with this book, since everything else Ms Andrews has penned, has sprung from this effort. Have a good time and tell others of this exceptional story. Additionally, have fun deciding whether or not this is fiction or non-fiction!

Her words are a gift

I loved Lynn Andrews's words from the beginning. Over the years I have heard rumors about her work's validity and have dismissed them for what they are baseless gossip. Her love and the love of her mentors infuse each of her books. As I read her words I reminded of the magic life holds when we are willing to see it. I was swept away by the story and my spirit was freed by the wisdom contained within. I hope you will give yourself an incredible gift and read all of her books.

Wonderfully inspirational!!

I had a hard time putting this book down! We have so much to learn. Someone told me this book would make me "think", it has. What an outstanding and beautifully written book. Thank you.

A Story of Reclaiming One's Power

What stands out to me, ten years after first reading this book, is that it represents so clearly the way that women easily give their power away and then develop blind spots to having done so. Lynn's ordeal reclaiming the marriage basket from Red Dog is a metaphor for my own process down this road. After all these years, it is still a strong milestone for me in my personal growth reading. It's also simply a wonderful and entertaining story. I highly recommend it to others.
