Can't Put Down Book

This is a book that holds you from the first word all the way through. It's filled with mystery, romance, good characters. All of Ms. Popp's "Night Slayer" books have been great, but this is the best in my opinion. I look forward to more.

Nice entertaining paranormal

This was a very entertaining read that wasn't too high on the blood and gore meter...which I really liked. I did enjoy the relationship between Erik and Kacie and found their long and evolved relationship very plausible. The only reason I couldn't give this book 5 stars was because of one plot line that I couldn't get over. It was the use of the chupacabra as an entity that could make people into changelings. Growing up in the southwest and learning about the fictional and sesationalized chupacabra as a joke make it hard for me to overlook the name. I wanted to laugh every time I read it in the book. That is just my personal issue as I am familiar with the history behind the "creature". Besides that it was a good read and is recommended.

Fourth in series continues to thrill

Robin T. Popp has written yet another gripping installment in the Night Slayer series. This story follows the vampire Erik, as he struggles with being honor-bound to protect Kacie, whom he believes is his best friend's killer. Under Popp's care, the characters travel an emotional road to forgiveness, understanding and love, all the while fighting against an unknown foe. Erik and Kacie's relationship is understandably rocky, but is not allowed to fall into the predictable. As the reader, I felt myself struggling right along with them. At times I could understand Kacie's occasional desire to stake Erik, at others I thought locking Kacie into the castle might well be the best call! Rarely do I feel such a connection to the hero and heroine. There are so many paranormal series out there today, but Popp has managed a fresh take on the vampire world, using at its source the chupacabra. Combining her talent for narrative along with her intuitive sense of each character's individuality, Popp continues to develop a unique world that welcomes readers into this new world. I'd encourage readers to read all the stories in Popp's series, but LORD OF THE NIGHT is perfectly able to stand alone.

Lord of the Night has a familiar feel.

In Lord of the Night, author Robin Popp manages to develop some interesting relationships between her characters so that even though I was bit disappointed that she strayed away from the Nightslayers of the previous books into the more generic vampire/vampire slayer romance theme, I still enjoyed this book. Vampires Erik, and Michael, and Michael's brothers, Sedrick and Ty, have been friends for hundred of years. When Sedrick is killed the night that vamp hunter Kacie arrives back in town, it appears that her `only good vamp is a dead vamp policy' may have sealed her own death warrant. Now Erik is torn between a vow made years ago to Kacie's dying father to protect Kacie and his vow of loyalty to Michael's pack to bring Sedrick's slayer to justice. I liked the complexity in the relationship between the romantic leads, Erik and Kacie. They have a long standing relationship that has transitioned through many different stages: First Erik was protector to the traumatized child who was nearly killed and witnessed her family's slaughter by vampires, next Erik was the mentor who taught love-struck teenage Kacie how to slay vampires, and then he became the reviled enemy when Katie discovered that Erik was one of the hated vampires. Now under the threat from Michael's pack, as Erik forces Kacie to reevaluate her long held prejudices against vamps and she learns to see the man behind the monster, and as the crisis causes Erik to discover his desire for woman that has grown from the treasured child -- their relationship will take yet another turn. The relationship between Erik and his life long friend Michael was also well done and added dimension to the story, their battles were especially interesting. Also it didn't hurt that Michael was a great secondary character, still retaining his innate honor even while struggling with the betrayal of his friend and the need to revenge his twin's death . While I liked the relationships, I had one big problem with the plot. The aftermath of one the character's run-in with the Chupacuras involving micro-waved blood was annoyingly implausible. I won't spoil the story by elaborating, but if you've read this you'll know what I mean. Other than that Lord of the Night was a pleasant if not original read and I liked the ending, which may provide a potential turning point for future books. I hope Harris' story is next.
