Book Overview

A practical and personal approach to apologetics for students. How many times has your teacher asked you a question, and you stare blankly at the ceiling, hoping to discover the answer lingering there? It's frustrating when we don't know the answers to the questions we're asked by others, but it can be even more frustrating when we don't know the answers to the questions we are asking ourselves. Have you ever asked one of these questions? - Does...

The best book like this I've ever read

This is the best, if you will, "apologetic" book I've ever read. Instead of trying to argue for the existence of God using the Bible (which doesn't work with A LOT of people), the author starts with philosophy in an entirely accessible way- the 5 ways of knowing reality. He then moves on to talk about the deepest need of humans- to be loved, and how these things point to God. These sorts of arguments hold a lot more water with teens and college students today. The author also has so many fresh ways of explaining things, instead of the usual pat answers.

A Great Book

Living with Questions is a book that anyone can read, not just for the student but the adults as well. This book that Dale wrote is great for people on all walks of life and looking for more reasonable evidence in the Christian faith. For those who are not interested in Christianity it's a good starting place for them to begin to see how to research on their life journey. Dale is able to present the information in a simplistic way so that anyone can understand, yet not insult their intelligence by thinking that they would not be able to "get it" and using the proper terminology so if they want to dig deeper they have an easier starting point, because they know what they are studying. I encourage anyone to pick up this book, read it, and pass it onto others. As I read I kept thinking to myself how I loved how Dale kept the book interactive. The questions at the end, where the students are challenged to think, write, share, and then have discussions with their peers is a great way to end each chapter! Dale did a great job at trying to keep them engaged, really work with the ideas presented using their critical thinking skills!

A solid book

This is a great book for senior's in high school going to college. I got serious about apologetics about that time because I knew that I needed to be able to defend what I believe. I am now a senior in college and I wish I had this book four years ago! It took me a while to get use to the book because of the unique style, but it doesn't disappoint. I've studied Lewis, Chesterton, Schaeffer, Plantinga, Zacharias, Craig, Moreland, and so on and I found "Living with Questions" to have all the basic questions answered, or at least better explained, with great style and compassion that really hits home with the student better than the above list. Now I know Fincher has these men above to thank for a lot of his thoughts, but he has a great understanding of how to connect to the student, which the men above can't do because of their approach to apologetics, their lack of experience with younger circles, or they're dead and unable to hit the nerve of this generation as well. He has the foundation of these great apologists and thinkers, but is able to translate these truths to the younger generation better than any of these men I have studied. And that is exactly why he wrote this book. This does not mean that he is merely copying everyone else, far from that! He is one of the most original and unique apologist I've studied. His answers are fresh and any student of apologetics will be revlitalized through this book. The best chapters were "What is truth?", "has God spoken?", "Am I valuable?", and 'What's so good about heaven?". Read it and you'll enjoy it, learn more, and gain a peace in facing questions.
