Let's Have Healthy Children

This book is by far the very best book about nutrition during pregnancy, and early childhood. Adelle discusses how poor nutrition can cause homely children, and low I.Q. scores and a host of other "common" childhood problems. Premature birth, small birthweight, jaundice, SIDS, colic. . . all can be totally eliminated by doing what she teaches! I have two very healthy boys, both weighed 8 lbs at birth. My Nutrition was better the second time (after reading her book which I purchased used at a local thrift store for 50 cents) I had a great home birth, and have a beautiful boy who was totally breastfed for six months, and skipped commercial baby food altogether. I am just sick about not knowing this information with my first son from the beginning. I read everything I could get my hands on regarding pregnancy, childbirth, nutrition, breastfeeding and none of these popular, current books told me even half of what I gathered in just my first quick scan of this book! I am really desparate to get some new copies for some friends and for myself-- my copy is yellowed with age and the pages are brittle! I suggest this one even if you get NO other book during your entire childbearing years!

Let's Have Healthy Children

This book has been a lifesaver! I own two copies, both belonged to my mother who purchased them when she had her children. They have been a valuable addition to my referance library. All of my pregnant friends call with nutritional questions that this book has answered accurately. I am amazed that no one recomends this book for pregnant women to read since this is the best nutritional guide I have seen. It is the perfect gift for all those who are expecting, or already have children.

Still Ahead of Her Time

I followed Adelle Davis's advice thirty years ago when I was pregnant with my daughter, and then through the birth of her brother and both their childhoods. They have always been smart, healthy, and attractive people, and I think AD's advice helped. I generally keep an eye out for new studies on nutrition and, time and again, I find that something Adelle recommended, such as the importance of anti-oxidants and of folic acid for pregnant women, has become nutritional gospel. She even recommended PABA to combat sunburn before there was such a thing as sunblock on the market. What I wish would happen now is that doctors would read her comments on giving iron salts to pregnant women. She cites studies that implicate them in miscarriages, prematurity, and toxemia. I feel obstetricians should pay more attention to what's in the supplements they give their patients and how those substances interact in the body. In other words, I wish obstetricians knew more about nutrition and could help their patients have easier pregnancies and healthier babies. Their abilities to diagnose and provide emergency care are laudable, but as the new grandmother of a premature baby, whose mother followed her doctor's advice to the letter, I wish doctors knew about the kind of preventive care this book helps women achieve. As I understand it, this book is being reprinted. I hope it comes with a new foreword by respected physicians. It's a book that, ideally, should continue to promote research that will mean healthier babies. What could be more important?

Excellent advice for caring parents

I have read this book and my wife followed the advice during the pregnancies of our four daughters. Each baby was strong and healthy at birth, able to raise their chest off the mattress by about one inch the day after birth. They each had full control of their heads being able to turn and look around at the light in the delivery room. I have not found another book to compare to the information provided in this, and believe that this book should be promoted strongly in the face of child birth defects and health problems.
