A Great Read!

The review from BugBehind was confusing. Antonia Felix clearly outlined the tragic car accident of Laura Bush from 1963. The 17-year-old Laura Bush hit a Corvair sedan driven by Michael Douglas. He was thrown from the car and tragically killed. The police records reported that neither driver was drinking. Laura Bush stated in numerous interviews that she grieved a great deal over that tragedy. She learned from that accident just how short and precious life really is. The former review of BugBehind was critical and erroneous. It made him sound like a real Bush-basher. The book was an excellent read about a common West Texas girl who was chosen to become one of the greatest first lady's of our U.S. history. Her words after the 9-11 tragedy were comforting to a grieving nation. It is one reason so many people admire her. The book was an enjoyable biography.

A great way to get to know Laura!

I loved this book!! Since Sept 11th, Laura has been such a comforting person to me, so I grabbed this book right away when I saw it. It's really a wonderful way to get to know Laura. You get all kinds of details--about her childhood, her relationship with George W., and her work--that I've never read anywhere else. The author even interviewed Laura's mom, so you get all kinds of commentary from Laura's own mother!! I also loved the section of pictures of Laura from when she was a baby up to now. I'm a teacher, so I thought the parts about Laura's incredible commitment to education were fabulous. She's just an all-around amazing person. I've been recommending the book to everyone I know!

excellent tribute to first lady

I'm so glad someone has FINALLY written a biography of Laura Bush. She deserves something this classy and respectful. It's clear that the author has a great admiration for the first lady, but she doesn't let that get in the way of her writing. She presents a very thorough account of Laura's life from her childhood to the present (including how she's dealt personally with the events of Sept 11.) Laura does have a few dark shadows in her past, which the book examines and there are some very funny stories about Laura's meeting with George and their courtship.Anyone who wants to know more about Laura Bush and what motivates her will love this book. I even read somewhere that Laura's mother liked the biography!

Warm, inspiring portrait of a woman we can all respect

I thoroughly enjoyed immersing myself in this compassionate tribute to a woman who has quickly become our nation's "mother" and a wonderful role model. Laura Bush has not had a scandalous life but she surely has lived a respectable one. Her wit and charm come through from ancedotes by her mom and the well-done research of Antonia Felix. In addition to the magazine articles done on her, this book provides a more in-depth look at this soft-spoken, down-to-earth woman. I highly recommend it and hope others enjoy it as well.

At last! A book we've been waiting for

This book will delight every Laura Bush fan who has followed her journey from the woman who first appeared as a shy, self-conscious shadow behind George W. Bush to her new image as a role model for all American women everywhere. Now we can learn more about Laura without having to resort to reading the tabloids. Antonia Felix has written a fascinating, informative book filled with insider tidbits from Laura's friends and family, showing us a more fully drawn woman than the one we are used to seeing on TV for quick glimpses. The author takes us on a journey from Laura's birth and childhood to the woman she is today. Her commitment to her marriage and her family is so important to American families today, with all the stresses and bad influences around them. Her mother's recollections of Laura are very revealing and probably the best thing about this book, written with obvious care to detail by Ms.Felix.IF you're looking for a harsh expose, you'll be disappointed. The author is as respectful of her subject as the First Lady is those around her, starting with her own family. It's about time someone wrote a nice book about a very nice woman who happens to be our First Lady, and is certainly our First Mother.
