I love "Last of the Ravens." It starts with Miranda Lynch and her sister Jessica on their way to celebrate Miranda graduating from college, but on the way they are involved in a tragic accident that kills Jessica and alters Miranda's life forever. When Miranda wakes up she can see, hear, and talk to dead people. She works with FBI agent Roger Talbot and other law enforcement to solve murders until it starts taking a toll. Her friends convince her she needs a vacation, so she goes to Talbot's cabin in Tennessee. Here she meets Bren Korbinian and the ghost of Dee which happens to be Bren's mother. She also has several encounters with a flock of ravens. What Miranda doesn't know is the flock of ravens is Bren. While they are dealing with their attraction to each other more sinister things start happening to Miranda. Just when they think they have everything under control the "Order of Cahir" a group that watches and deal with people that are different decides that the relationship between Miranda and Bren needs to be dealt with and things get worse. I had a hard time putting this book down until I was finished. Even though there are a lot of books about psychics and shape shifts out there Linda varied hers enough that I enjoyed it. Bren doesn't just change into a raven but 77 ravens; he is also the last of his kind. She is his soul mate the only one that can father his children although Bren isn't sure he wants to have any knowing that to do so would put their lives in danger. Meanwhile Dee is trying to save Miranda's life as well as play matchmaker. Every time you think things are going to be ok something else happens. I like the fact that Linda gives the ghosts an active part in helping Miranda and Bren toward the end of the book. She also has several twists going on throughout the book that keeps you guessing as to who is behind them. Good job Linda keep them coming!

exciting fresh romantic fantasy

Feeling bone tired, consultant Miranda Lynch decides to take a needed respite from her consulting work. She has not a break since her sister Jessica died in an accident four years ago in which her spirit said to her "I love you". Miranda decides to hide away in the Tennessee Mountains where no one will ask her for her help on solving a crime, which she hopes means no communication with ghosts, the source of her information. During her sojourn, Miranda meets mountain man Brennus Korbinian, who is the last of the Korbinian species who can shapeshift into ravens. They are attracted to one another to the shock of each as neither expected to meet their soulmate in this lifetime. However, the Order of the Cahir captures the two of them with threats to kill the monsters if they fail to do their bidding. This is an exciting fresh romantic fantasy starring two fascinating lead characters and villains who are sinister without turning cartoonish. The story line is fast-paced and filled with action as Miranda wonders whether fortune has allowed her to overcome the Lynch Love Curse or not; on the other hand Bren believes his soulmate will enable the Korbinian to survive at least one more generation if they can escape captivity. Linda Winstead Jones provides a strong thriller. Harriet Klausner
