A Genius of 20th Century Decorative Arts

This is a review of the 2004 hardcover edition of the 1999 English translation, part of the Memories of Design collection by Assouline Publishing. Jean-Michel Frank, born 1895, was a true genius of 20th century decorative arts, designing furniture and interiors for the most chic and affluent clientele of his day. In addition, he often collaborated with equally talent artisans, sculptors Alberto and Diego Giacometti, decorator and cabinet maker Adolphe Chanaux, and Cuban-born architect Emilio Terry, among others. Despite his great successes creating interiors for wealthy art patrons such as Marie-Laurie and Charles de Noailles in Paris, and Nelson Rockefeller in New York City, the artist lept to his death from a window in NYC in 1941. Although this book is not as comprehensive as some others on this great designer, it is good reference for the price.
