Teach Your Training Instructors to Excel

Are you sure that the person who is administering training for your organization is truly qualified, confident and thoroughly prepared? Every day, thousands of employees receive sub-par training from instructors with minimal knowledge and experience. That notion should frighten every human resources department head, president or CEO. In this updated version of their classic 1992 work, authors Bob Powers and William J. Rothwell roll out the blueprint for ensuring effective training. They explain in painstaking detail everything instructors need to know and the steps companies should follow to hire the right trainers. The book includes worksheets that are also on an accompanying CD-ROM for ease of use. getAbstract believes this book is very valuable for anyone involved in the training process, especially those who supervise trainers.

Instructor Excellence

This book is very well written and contains so much useful information and suggestions for training and/or teaching. This is a "must have" for anyone who teaches or trains adults!

Valuable tool when establishing standards for new trainers

As a corporate trainer, I used this book as my guide for facilitating valuable training classes for my particpants. Although the information is basic, it is fundamental and very easy to read. Now that I am managing a training department, I have used it to write job descriptions, select qualified trainers, establish trainer standards, and train new trainers. I recommend it to anyone with these responsibilities. Mine is always within easy reach!!!

Maybe obvious, but critical

Some might criticize the content of this book as being nothing but common sense. It's true; if you are an experienced, accomplished teacher you may discover little that is new. But Powers is attempting something else: to establish, for administrative purposes, those competencies for which trainers (or teachers) ought to be held accountable. It's not the last word on the issue, but it certainly is a good start. Nowhere else will you find such a clear and concise discussion of the criteria by which instructors can be judged.

A Standard

I have used this volume to set standards for the instructors in our Corporate Training Division for the past five years. I am ordering more copies for two new employees - one with experience looking for more polish, another a junior trainer needing a baseline for training etiquette. This book is a valuable tool for both individuals, as well as others in between. Great information and ideas!
