A watershed book, from an amazing Historian and person.

With apologies- I ordered this for me as a replacement, but it was sent to a friend instead (my fault). And unfortunately, he had moved. This was wunna the first history books I bought as a little kid with my own money. Walter Lord was an 'Incredible' Historian from a time when it was about the 'story'. Instead of footnotes and endnotes, the documents and participants telling the story themselves, with Lord providing the connective tissue and creating/guiding the 'flow'. It's a wonderful read, and still stands out even among the newer histories, Historians, and treatments. I've been hooked on the Battle of Midway, ever since (toss in Freemantle and the Coast Watchers as well). And in person, Walter Lord was one of the best humans I have ever met or spent time with.
