The reading is gripping, exciting, and moving. The scenes grab you and you feel like as if you are there in the background watching the characters move. This is a marvelous story, catches your attention from the beginning. I strongly encourage Lynn to continue this story line. There should be more of this story.

Awesome new Horror/Fantasy Author!!

This novel reminded me of the gritty reality feel I associate with early Laurell K. Hamilton and Jacqueline Lichtenberg. A strong imperfect female lead with issues facing a dire situation. The setting was very realistic and strangely right, even considering all of the squick factors included. My only real complaint was that they had shelved this book in romance! It ISN'T a romance. It wasn't the least romantic! It was dark, disturbing, erotic, jolting, electric, heretical, and engrossing bbut NOT romantic. The story introduces a whole cast of characters and situations that undoubtedly will be explored in future novels- which I am eagerly looking forward to. Much darker than Kenyon, Drake, or any other Paranormal Romance author I've read. Left me with chills but I couldn't put the book down, even to eat supper.... I highly recommend for anyone though a high squick factor is needed.

"If Angels Burn" is the first novel in what promises to be another outstanding "Vampire" series. Lynn Veihl has given fully fleshed characters, sometimes sympathetic, sometimes not but believable. Dr Alexandra Keller is a reconstructive surgeon called on to operate on what must be her most unusual case. Michael Cyprien will be her most intriging patient. The story grabs you from the beginning and yet still picks up the pace as it slams towards the end of the book and throws a curve right near the end! ....then leads into the next book. If you like well constructed stories and characters, please read this book. Well done, bring on the rest of the series!

exciting vampire romance

In Chicago, Dr. Alexandra Keller is a renowned reconstructive surgeon who works complex cases with a speed and accuracy that no else match. In New Orleans, M. Cyprian offers Alexandra an outrageous sum of money to work on his face; she refuses informing him to come to Chicago as she has other patients who need her. However, refusal is unacceptable; Michael's men abduct Alexandra and bring her to his home. She is stunned by the hole where his face is and he demonstrates how fast his body heals so that a normal surgeon would not have the time to operate. Alexandra reluctantly does repair his mutilated face. Afterward he sucks her blood in rapture, but she survives; the first human to do so in centuries. Feeling guilty Michael knows he must protect Alexandra from his fellow Darkyn and from their opposites the Vatican sponsored Brethan. He heads to Chicago where his loyal servant dumped the surgeon, not knowing that soon he will love this mortal. This exciting vampire romance is action packed from the moment that Alexandra is abducted and never slows down until the final altercation. The story line contains terrific characters that make the Darkyn seem like a real species especially the jealousy of a rival Lucan. Alexandra's brother Farther John adds depth to understanding the heroine. Lynn Viehl writes a fabulous paranormal tale that readers will appreciate each bite and look forward to sequels. Awesome book! If you love vamp romance, you'll love this!

I could not put this book down. Lynn Viehl is an incredibly talented writer! I was hooked from page 1 and couldn't stop reading. Alex -- the main character and heroine -- is an outstanding character. Michael is a sexy, worthy vampire hero. Everything about this book was fantastic -- fast paced, excellent dialog, super supporting characters. It's a gritty, sophisticated vampire novel, with romance (I wish there had been more of that!!) and vampire empire building. I loved it and can't wait for the sequel to come out.
