Huggly Gets Dressed

ISBN 0590918192 - This series is apparently supposed to be for the 4 to 8 year old crowd, but Huggly will appeal to younger children, as well, if not more. For some of the older kids, Huggly's a nice way to deal with fears that a lot of 7 and 8 year olds don't even want to admit to having, of the monster under the bed. Huggly is a monster and lives under the bed of a people child "named" Sleepyhead. One night, Huggly sneaks out and slips quietly into the room... until he bangs his head on a dresser and causes a drawer of clothes to fall out. Suddenly curious about clothes, Huggly dresses himself and finishes just as Sleepyhead's mother comes to wake him. Huggly's got to hide before he gets caught! Huggly's hilarious, not even remotely scary, which isn't the point of the story but is a nice thing - kids who deal with their own monsters under their own beds will be happy to know that maybe their monster is equally un-scary. His attempt to figure out clothing seems perfectly reasonable, and the illustrations absolutely make the story. Reading "A bright red-and-yellow striped thing had a nice hole for his tail." isn't funny at all if you can't see that the striped thing is a shirt. Arnold's a genius and Huggly's a goofball... You should be warned, of course, that if you read this one once, you'll be required to read it over and over - it's that good. - AnnaLovesBooks

Huggly makes reading fun, fun, funny!

How could one resist a chubby, goofy little green monster who constantly gets himself into trouble? I certainly can't and neither can my two kids. The Huggly books were some of the first books that my children requested me to reread (and their collection is quite huge) and they never seem to tire of them. Today my young son (who is just learning to read) brought home my personal favorite "Huggly Gets Dressed" to read as a homework assignment and I got to view it from a new perspective as he read to me. In Huggly Gets Dressed our favorite little green monster who lives under the bed of the "people child" sneaks out to have himself an adventure. He discovers the people childs clothing drawer (actually he bonks his head on the drawer and knocks the clothing on his head) and has a heck of time trying to figure out how these clothes things work. Just when he thinks he's got it all figured out he hears a knock on the door! Oh, no it's the people child's mother!! Huggly tries to run and hilarity ensues. The text was easy enough for my son to read without getting thoroughly frustrated but it was also challenging enough to make him stop and think through a few new words. He laughed aloud at the hilarious drawings of Huggly which are funny even when viewed for the tenth time. I recommended this for kids of all ages but especially those between four & seven.

ever dress funny

I like this story because it is a funny story.I think it is funny because Huggly dressed himself up with cloths, but he put them on the wrong way. I think all kids and adults will like this book. Thisbook has great illastrations that goes with the text.

My Kids Love Huggly!

Huggly is one of the most popular characters in our house. The books are wonderfully illustrated with bright colors and easy to follow pictures. The character of Huggly, the monster from under the bed, is really cute and is a non-threatening monster. He looks at the world around him in ways that small children can relate. The books are silly--my kids want to read Huggly over and over. This is a most-have for anyone with pre-schoolers.

Delightfully ridiculous!

Poor innocent Huggly tries on people clothes. Good thing he doesn't know what item goes where! This is for any kid who likes to do silly things, or just wants to laugh.
