New Testament, Psalms & Proverbs

I ordered this version of the New Testament, Psalms and Proverbs because I was ordering a book for my husband by Tony Dungy and this is how it is listed! Worked out ok because it is a very easy to read version, but I'm not sure why it is listed under Tony Dungy! :-)

Priorities in life (the book)

I bought this as a gift for a family member. Tony Dungy is a very special man, with a special wisdom beyond most. There is a time and a place for everything. When you are ready to get serious about life, this book will help you a great deal. I don't ever pretend to be politically correct. I prefer to search for truth not laughs, along the way.

Ready to Share

Coach Dungy's celebrity and success make this a great gift for anyone trying to figure out how to get ahead. Its great to use along with the new book but maybe better as a gift. It's handy size and attractive appearance also make is aesthetically desirable and easy to slip into someone's hands. Buy two or three and keep them handy to share with those inquiring minds you encounter!

A companion piece to his bast-selling memoir of the same title, respected NFL head coach provides a playbook to better appreciate the teachings within the New Testament. Like any outstanding teacher - and a great coach is an excellent instructor - coach Dungy does not leave any person behind; this can supplement other study materials or can be used to introduce someone to the New Testament and then utilized for future reference. While it can be used by one person, to involve others in studying the New Testament is obviously a way to practice the priorities of a winning life. As the saying goes, "There's no 'I' in team."

Quickly became my favorite Bible...

I bought this Bible last year because I found it very cheap online and wanted a compact Bible to take with me when I travel. This one fit the bill. However, it has very quickly become my primary Bible. It's the one that I take with me to church. I do travel with it. And I keep it beside my bed, where I use it for devotional reading. First and foremost, I have really enjoyed the New Living Translation. It's very readable, without approaching the over-colloquial tone that sometimes enters The Message. Its size makes it less unwieldy than most Bibles. And I have been really pleasantly surprised by the quality of the binding. I have used this Bible relatively hard, and it has shown no signs of distress. There are two primary drawbacks to this Bible. Obviously, it only includes the New Testament with Psalms and Proverbs and does not contain most of the Old Testament. This is particularly comical when our pastor is preaching out of the Old Testament, and he tells us to turn to a particular passage. I sit there rather sheepishly because my Bible doesn't have that part! The other limitation is a lack of significant helps. Other than a "Topical Verse Finder" in the back, there is nothing beyond the actual text of Scripture to help the reader in understanding and interpretation. Of course, some will find this to be particularly beneficial, but I sometimes find myself wanting some assistance. When I want to do any serious biblical study, I use another Bible published for that purpose. With these limitations in mind, I strongly recommend this Bible to anyone interested in a great devotional Bible or a quality travel Bible. I'm glad I stumbled upon this one.
