Green Bananas, by Michael Drinkard is filled zesty characters, like the lovable Alabama, who weave their way through the simplest of life decisions with startling difficulty. This tapestry of ponderance is interspersed with a pageant of post-post-modernism, the holistically inclined survey of banana slugs and feminism in the 90s. The twist of slightly suspect romanticism can be excused by the sympthetic reader, due to the delights of the absurd and well-peopled backdrop. Green Bananas is good for a laugh and also a snigger, with weak patches easily skimmed.
