an entertaining mystery

In "Grady Lake," the story revolves around Katie Benard, who reluctantly returns to her hometown after her sister Malorie vanished two decades earlier. Now working at her family's lakeside resort, Katie is thrust back into the mystery when a teenage girl disappears from the same area. With the eerie similarities between the two disappearances, suspicions arise about whether there are multiple perpetrators or if the same person is responsible for both incidents, leaving the small lakeside town on edge. Ratings: 1. **Plot and Storytelling:** 3.5/5 I'd rate the plot a three out of five, while the storytelling earns a solid four. While the plot had its strengths, some aspects could've been improved. Some of the characters felt underutilized, and I found myself predicting a few of the minor twists, which was a bit disappointing. However, the storytelling itself was top-notch. 2. **Characterization:** 3/5 The characters felt realistic, and their emotions were portrayed authentically. However, I wished there was more growth and development among the major players throughout the book. 3. **Writing Style:** 5/5 JL Hyde's writing style deserves a perfect score of five out of five in my book. It's skillfully crafted, well-paced, and strikes the perfect balance with its descriptions. 4. **Originality:** 4/5 While the story itself felt unique and unlike anything I've read before, there were moments, like the predictable death of a character, that felt a bit too familiar. 5. **Emotional Impact and Resolution:** 5/5 While I experienced a range of emotions throughout the book, the ending, with its unexpected twist, left a lasting impression and elevated the overall experience. Overall score: 4/5 I would highly recommend you purchase a copy of Grady Lake. It’s a good story, an easy and quick read, and overall a great time. If you enjoyed this book, I recommend that you check out more of JL Hyde’s work, particularly the Delta County interconnected standalones. If you’re looking for a different author Lucy Foley’s The Guest List is also a good choice.
