Very insightful reading

This book underscores the importance of Employers in driving desirable cost and quality outcomes in the health care space. Its easy for most people to think of health care in terms of hospitals, physicians, labs, pharmaceuticals and insurers. But at the end of the day, Employers are paying for the bulk of the health care spend and with the right tools and motivation can fix several long-term issues in the system. Its incredible how the level of sophistication differs between employers when it comes to managing health benefits programs. This book is a must read for anyone interested in this space, particularly those managing or paying for health benefits programs for employers of any size.

Must Read for Health Care

As fragmented as the health care system is, insights and theories on how health care works are just as much so. This book brings together a total perspective on a landscape that is shifting under our feet, and layouts out concepts for how we can make sure the new landscape is what we want and need it to be.

Health Care Reform Must Read

Get Off The Dime provides a compelling logic for the power of information technology to eliminate administrative cost excesses, reduce medical errors and duplication of testing and improve patient activism in their health and in their control within the health care system.

knowledge is power

If knowledge is power, then I now feel like Superman of the medical benefits industry. This book takes a complex topic and boils it down to the nitty gritty. Anyone interested in how medicine will be delivered in our country over the next decade, and that includes all of us, would benefit from this book. However, "Get off the Dime" should be mandatory reading for anyone in the medical benefits, insurance, political, or technological arena. As a physician, this book has given me insight into an area of medicine that doctors do not usually get a peek at. Well done! Bruce A. Miller, M.D. Plantation, FL

Taming the beast without breaking its spirit

Get Off the Dime is a refreshing, new look at what has become a tired, old subject: the dysfunctional U.S. healthcare system. Its development throughout the 20th Century, by virtue of various legislative acts, all the way up to this century's legislation is detailed. This approach provides the insight necessary to understand the nature of the beast we now have to wrestle. The challenge is to tame the beast, with its inconsistent level of quality, its inherent resilience to market forces, and its lack of a strong technology platform. Get Off the Dime is about transforming the U.S. health care system without diminishing is excellence. It's a good read as well as a good reference.
