Fantastic Shounen manga

Flame of Recca is my hands down favorite Shounen manga for a few reasons. It is equal parts awesome, hilarious, and wicked. The storyline has good twists and turns, the character development is great for Shounen, and the humor takes you by surprise quite a few times. Obviously, since this is a Shounen title, there is a lot of fighting and violence, but it's done so darn well. The artwork starts out kind of poor (this was the author's first manga), but gets better and better throughout the series, until the latter third, where it will blow you away (there are 33 volumes total). I highly recommend this series to fans of the Shounen genre, because it delivers on all fronts, and even has some well-done romance!

Flame of Recca

This book is so good that your eyes will bleed. My favorite character is Recca because he can put his arm on fire. His biggest rival is a mystirious women that tries realy hard to confuse Recca. Shes so desprate that she gives a thing to Reccas rival or friend and then she gets super wind abilitys and tries to kill Recca.

Flame Of Recca Rocks!

This Manga really rocks! I don't know about the english version as i am reading the chinese version of it! But it is still a very enjoyable and full of action comic book! I really reconmend to people who like reading comics!

Wonderful

I love the first volume of Flame of Recca. I have read all of them... (More then 20 vol.) before they were published in the United States. The whole Flame of Recca series used to be translated on a website. As soon as I heard that Flame of Recca was being published in the United States I just had to have it. I adore every single volume. The first one is not quite as good as the later volumes because the story is still beginning to unfold. If you did not enjoy the first volume that much don't let it stop you from reading the rest. It just keeps getting better and better. Once they reach the tournament the fun really begins. *Evil laugh*

Who doesn't like ninjas?

Until "Flame of Recca", my only manga experience was the "Oh My Goddess!" series. I bought this on a whim and my instincts proved right. Some of the characters are standard manga/anime types (the sweet and innocent heroine, the mysterious dark lady, etc), but the stories are action-packed. The artwork has a "sketchy" quality but the panels are well layed out and easy to read. There is never any confusion over what is happening on each page. I should note that this book is printed in the original Japanese format and thus reads right-to-left. I'd never read a "backwards book" before this ("Oh My Goddess" is edited to read left-to-right) and found that I actually prefer the original format. When reading edited mangas I can't help noticing discrepancies between flipped and non-flipped panels and it drives me nuts. Warning: VIZ (the publishers) rated this book "T+", or "for Older Teens", and with reason. It contains obscene gestures, some profanity, suggestive dialogue, and one scene of frontal female nudity.
