My Sister the Vampire

Young girls often dream that they have a lost identical sister. In this series, twins Ivy and Olivia find one another, but there is a twist. Ivy is a vampire, Olivia is mortal. And vampires are never allowed to tell humans about their existence. Many challenges must be conquered in order for these young girls to be together. The writing is fairly simple, and the plot lines are predictable, with only small surprises. So, why did I give it five stars? It got my eleven year old to read four books in three days. She didn't play with the brand-new wii games, or the PS3 games we rented. She didn't even want to put it down to eat. There is nothing I find objectionable in them, and these books enthralled my daughter. After all, they were written for her, not me. So, I don't think it gets better than that.

READ IT

This book "Fangtastic" is a good book for ages children 9 to 10 years old. The book is focused on a reporter named Serena Star trying to prove that vampires are real and are in Frankling Grove. Serena thinks that vampires are ruining the school (and the world). If you like adventures READ IT! READ IT! READ IT!

Summary of Fangtastic!

The main characters in this story are Olivia Abbott and Ivy Vega, the twins. Ivy is a vampire, but Olivia isn't. The three major characters are Ivy's best friend Sophia Hewitt, Ivy's boyfriend Brendan Daniels, Olivia's best friend Camilla Edmunson, and Serena Star a celebrity reporter who hosts her own news show The Morning Star. Sophia and Brendan are also vampires while Camilla and Serena aren't. The story starts out with Serena Star on her television show covering a story that happened the day before. A vampire boy named Garrick Stephens had climbed out of a coffin in the middle of a funeral. The conflict is that Serena Star, finding this strange, decides to find what out the "truth of Franklin Grove" is. The rising action begins when she goes to the Franklin Grove Junior High and begins her work. She wonders why there are so many Goths in this town. Meanwhile, Sophia, Ivy, and Olivia are trying to find a way to mislead Serena Star from the truth of vampires and attempting to convince her that nothing is out of the ordinary in Franklin Grove. Eventually, Serena comes to the conclusion that nothing is strange in Franklin Grove, or so she says. She confronts Ivy in the hall one day at school and announces that she wants Ivy to be on an episode of her show to display to the rest of the Franklin Grove students a good role model. Happy that Serena has dropped the "deep dark secret" idea, Ivy accepts. After school, they begin filming, live. Meanwhile, Olivia, Sophia, and Brendan are waiting for Ivy in front of the school when Toby Decker, Serena's former student assistant, walks up to them and explains that he thinks Serena Star has gone mad. He says that she believes that vampires are real and that she thinks Ivy's one of them and how Serena is going to force Ivy to drink holy water, touch the Bible, look at her reflection in a mirror, and eat garlic. Thankfully, all of those are myths. Except one: garlic actually kills vampires! What will happen next?

My Sister the Vampire Fangtastic

While aimed at ages 6 to 12 group this is one of the most interesting Vampire series I have read yet. The series deals with twins separated at the age one (one girl name Ivy being a vampire other other Olivia being human.) They were reunited when Olivia moved to the same town as Ivy and was let in on the secret world of vampires. Now they can't think of ever being apart as this story deals with one vampire who like Ron's brother in Harry Potter are real pranksters and choose to pop up out of a coffin in front of people risking the exposure of the vampire community to the world. It is a shame that book 2 and 4 are currently almost impossible to get in paperback as their currently in E-book form only. Hopefully they'll be reprinted soon.

My Daughter Loves this Series!

I bought this series for my 10 year old daughter and she loves the series. She has read all four book at least 4 times this summer. It does have a different take on vampires, but since the author is targeting pre-teens I think it is appropriate to make the vampires less violent and evil than you read in some vampire novels. My daughter is looking forward to more books being released by Siena Mercer.
