Brian Wood and Riccardo Burchielli bring it once again!

Blood in the Game, the latest volume of the Vertigo series DMZ introduces new player, Parco Delgado, to the stage, further complicating matters for protagonist Matty Roth. Writer Brian Wood puts forth a major change in the status quo of the series and as always, Matty finds himself caught squarely in the middle. Riccardo Burchielli's art always gives each character their proper voice and tone and the action scenes are pretty nice too. I give this book my highest possible recommendation. Buy it now.

An election in the DMZ

Brian Woods' DMZ is gaining momemntum as Matty Roth gets himself mired further into the political quagmire of the DMZ. New comer Parco Delgado upsets the apple cart of the tense atmosphere and runs as chair of a provisionally elected government. His ambition is unfettered and his intentions are unclear but as always with this series, the reader is most definitely in for a great ride. One of the surprising twists I loved about this arc was a revelation about Roth's family and how that adjusts the equation on Manhattan. Matty is in way over his head and his status as a journalist is starting to become less clear and distinct. Another well written six issues by Brian Wood that gives the reader more than you'd expect. Buy it.

DMZ #6 is the best of the series so far.

"Blood in the Game" is the best DMZ arc to date. We follow Matty as he falls and falls hard for a populist candidate, Parco Delgado, who's taking the DMZ by storm. Wood uses this story to question what happens to journalistic integrity when the journalist gets too close to his story. This volume also shows us more of Matty's family life, revealing more about his father and introducing his mother. The story is a true game-changer for this series: afterwards, the DMZ and Matty's role within that community will never be the same.
