More Cowboys Please

Louisiana born, Texas proven Joanna Wayne packs a wallop of a story about the military cowboy in her book Cowboy to the Core. And this Harlequin Intrigue was a perfect read for Veteran's Day. Heck, I'm a sucker for a man in uniform. They just look mm-mm good. And then when they shed the uniform for wranglers and a cowboy hat. That's like going from hot to just as hot. I'm good either way. One of her Special Ops books, Cowboy to the Core opens with a Dani Baxter in trouble. She's had another psychic vision and this time, it's her in the disturbing vision. And she's wearing a green gown and trying to avoid a knife-wielding black knight. Sheesh, that's enough to scare the stoutest of hearts. And before she can blink, she finds herself involved in an old friend's Renaissance-themed wedding. Enter the hero on a scouting mission and a mysterious man who dogs her every step. When Dani shows up to hunt for a gown for the wedding, the clerk hands her a green gown that's an exact replica of the one from the vision. Dani hits the floorboards and awakes to find herself in the arms of Marcus Abbot. Marcus, the former Navy Seal, now works for a private investigation firm that's centered on a Texas ranch. He's intrigued by Dani and knows she's hiding something. When she later receives a mysterious written warning, he finds he can't resist the sexy lady's plea for protection. Add in a woman who looks so much like Dani it's too ironic and who gets stabbed during the rehearsal dinner, and you've got a book full of intrigue and suspense with a side helping of sensuality. Dani is immediately likeable as a divorced single mother and Marcus just commands admiration. He's sincere, sexy and smart. Characters from a past book (Cutter and Linney) make appearances as does some pretty nasty traveling Renaissance players with a nose for trouble. There is lots to unlock in this book that moves from Austin to Plantersville to The Woodlands/Spring area. Lots of Texas-sized secrets and some moments that make you wish your own Cowboy commando would show up and save the day. I really enjoyed the read. Joanna is a consummate and her books read as smooth as a Texas cowboy's pick up lines
