Superb Resource to Boost Communication in Spanish

This book is, by far, my go to book for increasing communication among my Spanish 1 and Spanish 2 students. The book is easily a Spanish 1 level. Even an introductory class in Spanish would benefit from this book. Each chapter begins with pictures of every vocabulary word. This book follows the basic topics of any standard Spanish textbook. There is also a Spanish/English glossary in the back of the book. After the vocabulary, the authors ask questions using pictures. Next, there is a short dialog between two people in which the vocabular is used. Super for active engagement in the classroom. There are questions over the conversation. Then the book gives more dialogs over the same topic (a rare source), and more activities to use for communication. I love the format of the book. The authors break down concepts into manageable chunks. This book boosts the confidence of my students.

Vale la pena (It's worth the effort)

I've been a Spanish teacher for 31 years and I love this series of books. I use them with my upper-level classes. The conversation-based practical settings really can help one improve survival language skills. The first few lessons teach very high-frequency expressions like greetings and those used to order food. No grammar is taught. Conrad Schmitt is a veteran language author and it shows.

Great Book!

For any novice Spanish speakers, this book is GREAT! I would highly recommend it to anyone wanting to learn to communicate in Spanish. It focuses on dialogue and conversations rather then strictly vocabulary.

Good Choice

Once you've had all the basic grammar classes and you want to begin finding resources for building your vocabulary this is a good choice. I suggest looking at the "look inside this book" table of contents. It offers a variety of themes one might encounter while living or spending time in a Spanish speaking country and being able to communicate in these situations.

Easy to manage resource book.

I like this book and the others in the series. I use this book in my Adult Education classes and it works well. There is a need for more depth in practice excercises. The material is easy to follow by the novice and is low stress, just what is needed by people who are returning to school and want something that is easy yet productive.
