Coming Even Clearer well worth the time to read

In this book, Patterson not only discusses the typical "dealing with organizational change," but also delves into much deeper aspects of the change process. Specifically, he discusses the harsh realities about people and organizations in regards to change as well as building resilience in others when dealing with change and yourself as a school leader. Patterson explains each of the harsh realities in great detail (for example, reality #1: most people act first in their own self-interest, not in the interests of the organization). He then provides a real example of the reality in a school setting. In addition, Patterson then explains the leadership implications of each reality and how as a leader, one can use these realities as a positive for their organization as opposed to a negative. In addition to discussing these realities at length, Patterson offers suggestions to help leaders build resilience into organizations (by first acknowledging the existence of the harsh realities), and then develop leadership strategies to move forward despite any adversity that results from these realities. He finishes the book by discussing how to help others and yourself develop individual resilience by utilizing a series of self-reflection questions. I thoroughly enjoyed Patterson's book and recommend it to any current or aspiring school leader. I'm sure you will find it a valuable read.
