Caught Between Two Cultures

It is white man's year of 1840, and Tsena, son of a Comanche peace chief, does not know that it is also the year white man will change his life forever. His story is based on two historical encounters between the Comanches and Texans, the Council House Massacre and the Battle of Plum Creek. Although Texas history is usually written from the Texan point of view, in this novel the reader will find out what it might have been like for a Comanche boy who was there. His father is killed and Tsena is wounded. Taken in by a white family in San Antonio, he learns about a new way of life and glimpses the power of the written word. The author has done her research and brings the past alive through the eyes of a sixteen-year-old Comanche boy. This book was chosen by the New York Public Library as one of the Best Books for the Teen Age.
