A Book Review

Campfire Mallory by Laurie Friedman is about a girl named Mallory and her best friend, Mary Ann, who go away to summer camp together. When they get there they figure out they're not in the same cabin. Neither of them know anyone. The story begins a couple days before Mallory, Frankie, Max, and Mary Ann go to an overnight summer camp. They're all busy packing and double checking everything. Mallory is a little bit scared, but since Mary Ann was going he wasn't as worried. Tomorrow they will get on the bus and go to summer camp. When they get there they figure out they're not in the same bunk or cabin. Instead Mallory is with this crazy girl named Carine. Mallory is the main character and is going to fifth grade. Max, her brother, is in junior high and couldn't care less. Frankie is Mary Ann's step brother, and Mallory's friend. Mary Ann and Frankie live next door and they're all the same age. My favorite part of the book was when they wore matching pine-tree pajamas to the camp out. I like this part because in the picture they looked silly. I would recommend this book to fifth and fourth grade girls but not if they're about to go to summer camp. I liked this book a lot. You can also read other books in the Mallory series.

S'more Great Reading!

Laurie Friedman has done it again! Mallory is back, headed to summer camp and as usual, has a plan on how everything should work out...she'll bunk with her best friend Mary Ann and have wonderful adventures. And as usual, life throws her a curveball in the form of Carine, her bunk mate and oh, so annoying new friend. Friedman has such an ability to find stories that will resonate with kids. All the camp details are on point and the themes in this book are universal for kids and adults as well. Not to mention the fact that the book is fun, fun, fun! Pack this one in your duffel!
