Hot Vamps, Hot Weres, Hot Alphas

What else do you need in a good romance? I enjoyed Caleb's story much better than I expected. I read a Sarah Mc Carty anthology a while ago and it was just okay. In a discussion board I read about how good Caleb the shadow wranglers was. I grabbed it during one of my weekly visits to the book store :) This was a fantastic paranormal romance with several hunky characters. Caleb Johnson is a rancher that lives with his vampire brothers and a werewolf pack that the family has befriended.The brothers are smoking hot and Derek, the leader of the were pack, is one sensuous wolf. Allie,our heroine, is quirky and spunky with a sense of humor that keeps her character from being too cutsie. I loved Allie and Caleb together. she used her humor to keep this alpha cowboy in check. There is a lot going on in this story so the beginning was a bit rushed to me. I think the author was eager to ju mp into the action so the slow build up in the 1st chapters isnt really there. That was actually fine to me since once the story was rolling McCarty makes up for it with great secondary characters, hot love scenes, and a romance between the hero and heroine that just made me sink into the chair and enjoy the ride. The villain is cheesy and not very scary other than making a lot of threats but Allie's thoughts about him and internal dialogue keeps the reader entertained. McCarty keeps the plot of this very simple and you are not overwhelmed with too much needless description or heavy world building. There's an evil vampire society that wants to take over the world and an ongoing vendetta with a were pack nearby that creates enough meat to carry this for a series. This didnt get 5 stars only because of the rushed beginning that some readers may get annoyed with and a few questions left unanswered. I also didnt understand the Shadow Wrangler part. There were no shadows or wrangling of any kind that I saw. Not even during life at the ranch since we only see the bedroom, the kitchen and the evil villains mansion. I am really interested and hooked enough to follow this through. Sarah McCarty has revived my 90's love for the hot cowboy just when I thought I'd outgrown a man in a stetson

Great mix of Paranormal and Cowboys

A really good mix of my two favorite sub genre's, sexy cowboys with paranormal abilities. Ms. McCarthy writes a very beliveable old fashioned male hero paired with a funny and fiesty modern heroine and the challenges they overcome to make their relationship work. The action is fast, the love scenes hot and the characters are very beliveable. A definite must read and I am looking forward to the next novel in the series.

"I just love reading a story where the hero has a strong sense of honor, family commitment, and integrity. Caleb is this hero, as well as his brothers. Allie's resilience makes her the perfect foil to Caleb. She keeps him on his toes, and doesn't bow down to his aggressive alpha attitude. The characters were great but the storyline hooked me. I had a hard time putting down this book. Little things happened throughout that when put together in the end made for an excellent read. The sex scenes were very sensual on the most part, but sometimes the brothers added a humorous touch. I really enjoyed the camaraderie between the brothers and how they adapted to one brother having a partner when they didn't have one for themselves. I'm already anticipating the next story in this series and can't help but wonder which brother will be next." 5 Hearts, Lisa Freeman
