the most straight forward book i've found yet

this book is good. what can i say. the author is clear and to the point. its the only book i've ever used that has an appendix of functions and there protoypes. and a short very handy description of each function. Its the best reference i've ever used and when it comes to programming i'd say reference is what is most useful not someone babbling on and on...

Very good intro to C, especially for the research oriented

I was quite impressed by this book. I had a little knowledge of C before using it (came from a COBOL and VB background), and to be fair it was the text used for a 1-week course in C, so I didn't really learn my C from it, but it was a very good accompaniment to the lectures.As an applications developer, mostly with business info systems, the examples were not quite right for me. They were oriented towards the researchers and mathematicians out there, but the title happens to mention that doesn't it. That minor gripe aside, the book contains a lot of general C information to an intermediate/advanced level.Well recommended for people cross-training from other structured languages and those learning to program for the first time. It is also a handy reference for those less experienced C programmers like me.

Excellent book on C programming

This book contains a very solid, organized and alltogether high quality presentation of the C programming language. It begins with the fundamentals and progresses to advanced levels. The explanations are clear and thorough using attractive diagrams in color, all the while maintaining a scientific context. It is the best book I have ever seen on this subject and I recommend it very highly.

A precise book on C.

Its an excellent book on C which covers the topics from variables,operators to advanced topics such as linked list, stacks and Queues.This book is definetely not for a total novice in C programming.Although the author has made a good attempt to explain the concepts but the real world applications part is difficult to grasp.I think he would have given a more detailed explanation of the examples in Real world applications section.The topics and concepts are covered very well in this book along with small programs.The author has made a great attempt to explain the run timestorage and advanced topics and has been successful in his endeavour.It has good Appendix sections which covers all the library functions.It is a must for people who are into Engineering studies.The programs covered in this book are explanatory along with diagrams to make clear the concept.I think Pointers are covered the best as I have failed to get a book who can explain pointers in such a way.Its the most complex topic and is explained in the most easy way.I would highly recommend this book to people who are just not concerned with the tip of the iceberg.I have given it a 4 star rating as one star is taken away for hard and complex real world applications section as it is certainly not for novices.
