Black Beauty

The strength of this book lies in its classic tale and large, soft, gorgeous photos showing the main characters--horse and owners--in lush countrysides with Victorian maidens and perfectly coiffed young mistresses. Those who don't recall the story of //Black Beauty// will find new heartache in reading of this poor horse's multiple (sometimes cruel) owners, but this dash of real-life ends well--with Black Beauty finding a picturesque home in the English countryside. SIMPLY GORGEOUS!

Sharon Lerner and Susan Jeffers' retelling of BLACK BEAUTY is magnificent. Nobody illustrates horses as masterfully as Jeffers. Every page is a work of art to be appreciated over and over for its detail, design, emotion, energy and sheer beauty. Lerner's narrative, written from the horse's point of view, is lyrical, clear and evocative of deep emotional content. This should be a standard in every child's library. I'm giving a copy to every child I know.

Love this book

This book is simply BEAUTIFUL, in story and illustrations. My daughter,3, loves this book. It is retold so well and suitable for a small child. It can be read in one sitting. Even as an adult I adore reading this book to my girl. Highly recommend for the illustrations alone, they are simply breath taking!!

Gorgeous version of Black Beauty!

We LOVE, LOVE, LOVE children's author/illustrator Susan Jeffers and this book does not disappoint. The artwork is fantastic, simply amazing. Sharon Lerner did a nice job with Anna Sewell's classic in this version of Black Beauty. We also have the 80's Susan Jeffers' Black Beauty that she illustrated for author Robin McKinnley and I find this new release to be much more well suited for young children. I highly recommend this book for your own child and as a gift for any little girl!
