Best Pocket-Sized Travel Book Around!

The Lonely Planet Encounter series of travel books is my favorite, and the Paris edition is no exception. It's THE book to have if you plan on being in Paris for a few days and need the best highlights of the City of Lights. It's broken up into easy-to-understand sections, based on the most popular Paris neighborhoods. The easy-to-read maps are also wonderful, as they show the best in restaurants, museums, shops and more, and clearly ID Metro stops that make getting around Paris a breeze. Finally, it's the perfect size--it easily fits into a cargo pocket or back pocket of a pair of jeans...no bulky book here. I only wish Lonely Planet would publish more cities in this format, especially Rome. But if Paris is on your agenda, you must buy this book!

Fantastic Guide!!

A friend and I visited Paris for the first time together and Lonely Planet made it so easy! The book is organized very well and most of our itinerary we took straight out of the book. It also has great maps that made it easy to navigate the city (with the heart of Paris being able to be discovered on foot). I also bought the Lonely Planet China and have so fat found it incredibly useful. LONELY PLANET ROCKS!

Glad we had this guide!

We borrowed this guide from a friend and let me tell you, I'm glad we did! It was perfect for what we needed for our first short trip to Paris. It had very nice descriptions and pictures of places to see and things to do. The metro maps were very helpful and the book was easy to read, and easy to carry around everywhere we went. It really helped us to plan our trip and decide what we wanted to see during our stay.

1st edition

My review is of the 1st edition. It was my "bible" when I was in Paris. Also bought the one for Rome. The maps are worth the price alone. Going to Paris this fall and will buy the new edition. Small, convenient, durable - a must have for your trip if you are at all adventurous.

As near to the "Perfect Guidebook" as I've ever seen

Paris: Condensed has (almost) EVERYTHING I've always wanted and looked for in a guidebook: fits in my pocket; wonderful, well laid out graphic design; useful, concise information on sites both large and small; excellent fold-out maps that stay attached to the book (and aren't embarassing to have to open up out in public); great listings of shops, restaurants and lodging. The only thing they missed out on was an index of street names for the maps (I still give it 5 stars, though). In short, you get everything you'd possibly need (except the aforementioned street index) when out and about in a very slick, user-friendly package. I eagerly await expansion of this series!
