A great intro. to being a Methodist

Regardless of where you may live - this was an easy, informative, and humorous introduction to UMC dogma. I read it in a couple of nights - passed it on to my husband who read it just about straight through, too. I highly recommend this to anyone thinking of becoming Methodist or already is one.

Very Informative

I really enjoyed this book and recommend it to anyone who is interested on the befiefs and history of the United Methodist Church. The author infuses humor throughout this book to keep it interesting and I found this book to be an easy read for the most part (there are some areas where even humor couldn't lighten it up enough). Overall, very worthwhile.

Belton Joyner Knows Methodism

I am a life-long Methodist,a seminary graduate, and thought I knew a little about Methodism. Belton's book opened my eyes and mind to a better understanding of just who we are, who we claim to be, and why we are who we are. I have had the opportunity to take two classes with Belton Joyner at Duke Divinity School and he is just as engaging and well versed on Methodism in real life as he is on the written page. This book is a must read for anyone who "thinks" they know Methodism and would really like to have a quick crash-course to reaffirm those beliefs.

I concur with Laura's analysis of this book. This is actually an introduction to UMC theology/doctrine, but it is presented in a very readable format. It describes what makes United Methodists distinctive from other denominations while allowing for diversity of belief. Buy it!
